The problems with the eu can be easily settled, by returning power to the national democratically elected governments, the eu has a massive democratic deficit in the way it works as the people who weild all of the power are the undemocratic unelected commission, as long as this body remains in power the eu can never work.

By 'intrinsic values' I guess that means Judeo-Christian values as practiced in the Western 'White' world. Well, it's the 21st Century and those 'values' don't seem to be the prevailing ones, even when the US and UK try to impose them by force.

"because in the increasingly complex and dangerous world in which we live, the United States needs a strong partner sharing its intrinsic values."

- I think this sums it all up on the US up their own rear end since the fact remains that the world today is all the more dangerous for the way in which the US disregards and flaunts international laws as and when it sees fit! The US created the likes of the taliban and Al Queda when it's CIA intervened covertly in Afghanistan back in the 80's against the Soviets and has done in many other nations. In some respects you could argue the indecisiveness of the EU is it's saviour - I mean imagine if there was a EU that was just as indicriminate as the US in it's own objectives - where would the world be then???

Thankfully US mistakes and overspending as well as China and Russia's acsendency have pulled the US down a few pegs and we might see a return to a more stable multi-polar world!
