Yes, the mosque in Belgrade reopened, however it needs a lot more help to repair the damage done to the cultural center, as well as to finish the building projects. So far, the money has come from international donors. Helping Belgrade's Islamic community would be a great way for the people and and government of Serbia to show that yes, they can live together in harmony with people of different ethnic and religious backgrounds. Isn't that the way that they can convince Kosovo Albanians that they are welcome in Serbia? Harping about international law and seizing 15% of territory doesn't help your regular Kosovar, Serb or Albanian or Roma or Ashkali. Showing - proving - tolerance at the people-to-people or government-to-people level does.

well, Doug,

at least if mentioning the attacks on those Mosques, you should at least, AT LEAST be so honest and say that it was some stupid soccer-hooligans that acted in reaction to the anti-serb pogroms perpetrated by the k-albanians.

mentioning that, would have been honest.
unfortunately you didn´t.

"Are there any mosques in Serbia that need 24 hour surveillance?"

Well, the mosques in both Belgrade and Nis were destroyed in March 2004.

I don't know if they ever re-opened.

For those who say only the Serbian media is reporting this, the International Herald Tribune just published the same story.

""Nobody in Kosovo is against the churches and you know that. Another propaganda, more of the same, that what this is.""

aa ..yea... so.. how come over 70 Churches (Serbian ortodox) got raised to the ground? burned down?,and what was it.. 3-4 weeks ago? another church was destroyed and they throw garbage and wrote UCK on the walls?, so you mean it was Serbs who is destroying there history and culture so they can blame on the Albanians?

There was no blast near the monastir. KFOR, UNMIK and Kosovo Police Forces have visited the wide area and they found nothing.
To Stevo & Ratko who are asking for coverage from CNN, Do you know why there was no coverage? They could not find the place, no fire, no damage, no nothing. they where there, fotografs, reporters all of them.
Only monks who told that they heard something very loud. But they could not tell where and what.
Nobody in Kosovo is against the churches and you know that. Another propaganda, more of the same, that what this is.

THE BLAST WAS NOT ANYWHERE NEAR THE MONASTERY!

K-Police: "There is no evidence that the explosion occurred around or near the monastery."

On another note, only Serb media has been saying that the blast occurred at the monastery.

Klei, try to be less cryptic and more clear in what you're saying. I have no idea what this "chosen country" is you speak of. If you've got something important to say, say it.

wake up already-there was no report of explosion other than by serb media. If there was it would have been a big story considering the monastary in question.
There was an explosion on a KPS serb house and that made the headlines.
You are lead by your media just like sheep..

Stevo

To Ratko,
The answer to you question about other coverage on this persistent terrorism we see is is: when Hell freezes over! When there was that fake story about Serbs drowning the Albanian boy in Kosovo, the BBC ran the story without question, invited reader comments - majority anti-Serb - and then closed the comments and the story was false! No invitation of comments about corrections to a bogus story! Also, about the BBC, last year somebody damaged Izetbegovic's tomb in Sarajevo. As an aside, they had a link to Izetbegovic's biography on the BBC site. Not a word about his SS membership in the biography. I emailed the BBC about this conspicuous omission, but nothing!

If this monastery is touched, you can be sure all Hell will break loose. I'm sorry to say but I can't believe the idea that Serbs are somehow behind this one. The area around Decani has hardly any Serb families or communities there, so I'm going on the probability that the perpetrators were Albanian extremists. This is not Northern Mitrovica where such claims are more valid.

rex

pre 17 godina

yes, this is part of the Serbia's game, from the past we've seen that they will do anything to show to the west that they are victims, they are the ones that are suffering and been under pressure from Albanians etc. Thanx god this time is KFOR and UNMIK here so their propaganda will not be sold easier to the west. From the interviews that you read its obvious that Belgrade is ready to start another war...in a days to come I'm afraid that more incidents may happen and I will feel for those inocent people from both sides that might be in a wrong place at the wrong time......I just hope that the resolution will be passed soon, so there will be no time for any actions taken to destabilize Kosovo....There is no way that a single Albanian, even Albin Kurti would want to do something to create trouble or incidents that will go against Kosovo, when its Crystal clear that Kosovo its going to be independent by May or June!!!!

Sakari is right with his last sentence; average people just want to live in peace and harmony with the people around them. I think we often forget this most important fact. If there just weren't those politians with their diplomacy..

Sakari

At the moment it is not a time for accusations. Both sides have also "cool" and wise people who should be encouraged to calm down own idiots! Killing is worth nothing whoever did it, Albanian, Serb, Finn, American, Swede etc. Violebce must be stopped by ripping down the culture of silence that is oppressing Albanians and Serbs by criminal-clan system. Average person or family want to ilive in peace; work, make love and raise one`s children!

Stevo

pre 17 godina

KFOR is about as useless as any other army that pompously goes into a province and, for years now, has either sat back indifferently or turned up after the event for the hundreds of acts of terrorism that has turned the place into a concentration camp for Serbs. KFOR are a disgrace. If KFOR gives its soldiers service medals, I don't know what those medals would be for - not bravery or doing their jobs, that's for sure. "International supervision" has been nothing since 1999 and if they wanted to, KFOR could deal with the terrorists, but they are unwilling.

Sakari

pre 17 godina

I am afraid that it is about to begin, the new conflict in Balkans/Kosovo. I am sorry for all civilians in the region. As a former civilian and military worker in Kosovo I wish that extrimists of all parties are not let to destroy the "peace" in the region.

Namcor

Yes I am afraid to it is going to start but this time it is NOT Serbs who started shooting first, but Albanians. It is not Serbian army and police "kiling and raping" but Albanians. It has to be said and known that any peace disturbance is caused by Albanians.
