I support peace in the region because, among other things, I believe that with peace is accompanied an increase in well-being. And I understand where this article is coming from. Because I think that it is necessary for Serbian children and for Albanian children, for example, to learn to respect the fact that they have neighbors that speak a different language and hold onto a different culture.

Now the latter is only significant insofar as it promotes respect, which in turn may lead to peace. That does not, however, mean that I as a man of Serbian heritage should admire the Albanian culture or to even wish to interact with it. Nonetheless, the only way peace can come about, in my view, is if programs like the one this article is addressing, programs that promote respect of other cultures and people, exist in schools and in society.

"but when the TV program is over, they go back to the reality of living confined to their housing block or village and the concentration camp existence of Serbs in Kosovo from 1999 to 2007 and beyond.

Stevo is just speaking the truth Art. No need to lie about the real situation in KiM!

And one more thing. Serbs do not need to be forced to learn albanian in their own country. If anything it should be the other way around.

Michael,
the only times serbs TRY to speak Albanian, is when they post offensive post on Albanian web-sites. it almost impossible to understand their words but easy to apprehend their provocative posts.
Also, regarding the mafia, you and your friends should worry about the world class serbian Mafia before you make any comments on mafias of other countries. Serbia is a major hub and source of drug and prostitute trafficking. its time you get out of coccon you have been for so long.
Cheers

Art...
First and foremost..Address the correct person please.

Beside's skipping peoples names and coming to early conclusions, you should fully understand what Michael was delivering..

The fact that he states PRE-90's lets me know that either you're impatient to read, or don't understand chronology..

Whether he is right or wrong...I don't know. I didnt' live there, but will take his word on the matter..

Perhaps Sesame Street will do you good..

You are the one who is lying Art. Albanian and Serbian were taught in Kosovo schools. The parallel education system was developed by the ethnic Albanians for four reasons firstly, as part of the sucession process secondly, so that Albanian children could be taught revisionist history and hatred for Yugoslavia and Serbia thirdly, to further divide the Kosovo community by alienating Albanian and non-Albanian children from each other and lastly, to help promote the Albanians foreign PR campaign that they were treated as second class citizens and were persecuted by Serbia.

A brilliant initiative. Hat's off to UNICEF and others behind this. How about using those two older gentlemen in the theater balcony?

Wow Stevo you're a pure example of the result of Serbian propaganda! Serbians had to learn Albanian? ALBANIANS WEREN'T ALLOWED TO LEARN ALBANIAN!
I am sorry but I find offense to such flat out lies! Why do you think the Albanians developed underground parallel institutions?
Most, if not all, Albanians in Kosovo know Serbian, but trust me the other way around couldn't be more wrong!

I would imagine that this Sesame Street thing will provide some escape for Serb children growing up in the ghettos in Kosovo, but when the TV program is over, they go back to the reality of living confined to their housing block or village and the concentration camp existence of Serbs in Kosovo from 1999 to 2007 and beyond.

You've got to start somewhere I guess. However, I fear that hatred is primarily culled from parents. Old habits die hard, so I'd also suggest funding programs for the adults as well.

"With the help of Sesame Street, Kosovo’s Albanian and Serbian children are now exposed to each other’s language, culture and traditions."

Until 1990 all Serbian children in Kosovo were required to learn Albanian as a second language. Not English or French, but Albanian. Serbians from Kosovo know more about Albanian culture and traditions than any other non-Albanian.

Far from endearing themselves to local Albanians, I suspect that this intimate knowledge of all things Albanian is resented by the secretive clannish Albanians and has encouraged them to persecute their Serbian neighbours.

By the way, impoverished Albanian-speaking Kosovo Serbians may find lucrative employment as translators for Western police forces who are struggling to crack Albanian criminal gangs which are rampant across Europe.
