laki NY,

You forget that north of Ibar is not under Pristina's control. So how are you going to expel all those "thugs"? Since no K-Albanian population is in danger in the north, don't expect Nato to risk World War 3 by launching an invasion on your behalf.

This is such a happy day. God willing, I will visit an independent Kosova this summer.
After so much suffering, the people of Kosova have won their well-deserved freedom. Let nobody take freedom from you. Congratulations from Tirana!

"Oh by the way if there is a unilateral declaration be just as aware that the border line will be much further south then the Ibar!" Where do you suggest it is going to be? Will it be at Shkumbin, or even more South, somewhere in Thessaloníki? Princip, you pretend to think logically, but the above comment is the most illogical comment I have seen in a while. What do you suggest will happen to Presheva Valley? What do you suggest will happen to Western Macedonia if what you think is the case? Enlighten me... The way I see it, is that the West is supporting this conditional Independence for Kosova because they want to stop the natural thing from happening and that is: Albanians in the Balkans uniting in one single state. If you read the Ahtissari plan you will see the pre conditions to independence. No unification with other states, etc... So fine... let Russia block independence, they are not going to be able to hold that forever. Albanians have been in the Balkans for a while, and they will be here, and whenever it happens, the Red and Black will fly free again.

To Marios: thanks for your propsal. Having thought serously about it, we prefer to join Albania if we have to join another country to make it big as you recommend. Plus it would be so simple, we all speak Albanian. I hope you are alright with this!

To all Serbs,
Stop comparing Kosova to RS. K-albanians were the hunted and B-Serbs were the hunters. Half of the RS is in the Hague for criminal charges against humanity. We cannot have the same deal.
We are the winners. Deal with it.

Princip after unilateral declaration of independence rest assured border wont be Ibar. North of Ibar all thugs , criminals and cetniks will be prosecuted or expelled and decelerated persona no-granted by the government of Kosova. And the border will be at the end of Kopanik . Kosova government is not obliged to offer any special treatments to its minority - American system will be applied here "Get with the program or get out". It will definitely be a win situation for albanians and loss for serbs, because of the simple reason failed politics of Serbian government. Instead of concentrating they energy to secure the best deal for serbs in Kosova , the went around with usually propaganda full of lies. ex serbianna.com . In every meeting Serbs tried to portray us Albanians as criminals, terrorist, drug-traffickers, whabbis,,... same old same old. References too all those articles are Serbian imagination, pro serb anti-albanian greek left –nationalist,…. NO CREDIBILITY what so ever. Your nation , your country , your politicized church just don’t get it, there are over 16000 NATO troops in Kosova , complimented with another 5000 UN civilian administration and in all this mix couple of hundreds foreign intelligent serviceman. You think they don’t know the truth what goes on in Kosova? You are day dreaming my neighbor (komosho)?!

Agim,

Good to see you back but it is clear that you have not given it much thought either!!!

You might not be so happy when the Russians do Veto but I don't think they (nor China) need to as I don't think the US & UK will be able to muster 9 affirmatives in any case!!!

In which case you seem only too happy for what will follow and that I am afrid to say it will be not win-lose - but is sadly lose-lose for all.

You will not have full independence via a ILLEGAL Unilateral declaration of Independence but will be no dissimilar to Northern Cyprus but conversly southern Kosovo & Metohija. There will follow a continuation of economic limbo that will stop inward investment and there will be no EuMIK to pump in the money to keep the clans happy!

Serbia will lose as it distracts from getting on with EU membership and focuses on ensuring it does all it can to undermine the economic and political foundations of such an ILLEGAL entity of Southern Kosovo & Metohija (or "WhateverItIsCalled/A") and this would detract form a new opportunity for all in the region to move forward and prosper. No matter what ethnic background all the peoples of Serbia could have have prospered from a win-win but with a new wall and barriers to economic development don't expect an economic revival for the next 100 years!

Oh by the way if there is a unilateral declaration be just as aware that the border line will be much further south then the Ibar!

Marios, there's a difference between the Balkans and Spain and I hope that you will someday find out what that is. To make your task easier, I will only say that Albanians do not want to remain with Serbia out of fear that they will be systematically killed AGAIN.

Joe

To Marios
You can not compare Serbia with democratic countries like Spain, UK, Italy. In Serbia minorities are second-class citizens, they are attacked on a daily basis in the province of Vojvodina. Crimes against minorities are never investigated or punished. Would you like to live in such a country as a member of a minority?

I congratuale you and the heroic albanian people of Kosovo. You have souffered so much. You deserve the admiration and support of all freedom-loving people of the world. Yes I think there will be a russian veto but that will not stop your independence. The veto will hurt only the serbian minority of Kosovo. In the coming years it will be a standard russian policy to oppose the USA and there allies at every possible ocasion because they have a very big complex of inferiority since the end of the Soviet Union. They try to be important again but fortunetely their are only the shadow of their previous status of world power.

Agim Elshani,

No. K-Albanians cannot win without UNSC agreement. Because you will not be able to enter the UN which is the ultimate confirmation of a country's sovereign status. Can you honestly be happy in the long run with this pseudo-independence? And without any real control over the entire territory ie. northern Kosovo?

MARIOS VASSILIOU

pre 17 godina

I cannot undestand this obsession with independence, instead of making greater countries so you have stronger roles in the futture of Europe you prefer to live in small states who have no real power. Look at the Spaniard diefferent nationalities, they want absolute autonomy, parliament, econmy, but no independence as Spain has many privileges that they want to enjoy. They try to live together, Look at the different parts of the U.K., they use to kill each other, now they live together, look the italians, the north and south, look at Cyprus, we try to have our country together again with both sides reconsiliating. What is your problem ?

1. Ahtisaari's recommendation comes as no surprise to all. It is expected. But it is just a proposal, that is all. And his work is done and he can pack his bag and go off into the sunset.

2. The ball is now in UNSC's court. My take is that his recommendations will not pass without changes. More likely it will be vetoed. This in turn will lead to the third point below.

3. Pristina will declare independence unilaterally. K-Serbs in the north will do likewise. This de facto partition will ensue until years later when Kosovo is ready to apply for UN entry and the de facto partition quietly becomes de jure.

Agim Elshani

I have told everybody(Blag,Princip,Tatiana, gregory etc...) that I will be back when the word INDEPENDENCE will be revealed officially. The day has come, so I drink to that.
I hope Russia wil use its veto, because all bets are off if that happens and we would declare our own Independence and get recognition from major players in world arena. So, either way we won and there is no such thing as win-win like someone used to write over and over again, but win -loose is the reality.

the old man did not have reliable ground forces thats why he did propose independence. his sentinels provided him with cooked food which suits the taste of the majority. he doesnt know that out of the 900 serbian houses burned in 2004 were rebuilt below standards and thats one reason why not even 10% returned. public faciltities in majority areas are well constructed while in the minority areas they are old and dilapidated. why? the KCB allocates 90% to the majority areas. its a shame that the CG dont realize this as well. but dear friend russia will come to the rescue because it knows the real score.

“it would be impossible for Kosovo to remain as integral part of serbia,” this is the most logical political conclusion. after such a barbarism committed by serbian forces during 1998 – 1999, it is simply unimaginable persuading kosovar population to live under the serbian law. whereas, we can live in peace and prosperity as neighbors.

mr. ahtisaari will be remembered as a wise politician. moreover, he will be remembered as a justice personification.

Finally, independence is recommended, and surely be approved by SC, what will make Kosova first country in the history proclaimed independent by UN SC. At least we will be the FIRST in “something”… (If we don not count the prewar diplomacy to convince western countries of Serbian genocide in Kosova what makes them to attack Serbia). From now one we should be focused in economy, and to let alone the politics. This would also be advice for Serbian politicians as well as for K/Serbian politicians. Only welfare will bring political stability in the region, after the Kosova status is officially proclaimed and adopted by UN. So, if “someone” still wants destabilization in the region, will deal with politics, keeping the people “Hi”, instead of trying to fix real problems of their own country – economy.
So, anyone (meaning politicians not people, because when there is no welfare, people listen whatever politicians say) can choose between good life and bad life. Considering that life is too short there is no time to lose.

I am wondering whether the UN will back the Republic of
Srpski in Bosnia, if in the future, they wish to become independant. I truly hope that the Balkan countries can somehow overcome their hatred and prejudice of each other to somehow live in peace. I know that my family in Serbia have had enough of war and bloodshed. No one is immuned. Everyone suffers.

This is such a happy day. God willing, I will visit an independent Kosova this summer.
After so much suffering, the people of Kosova have won their well-deserved freedom. Let nobody take freedom from you. Congratulations from Tirana!

laki NY,

You forget that north of Ibar is not under Pristina's control. So how are you going to expel all those "thugs"? Since no K-Albanian population is in danger in the north, don't expect Nato to risk World War 3 by launching an invasion on your behalf.
