Jail and deport seems quite reasonable for a person who attacks innocent people on the street. He can receive psychiatric treatment in his own country.

But I don't think anyone should panic over this, or use it as an excuse for displaying covert racist sentiments. This was, after all, one individual outburst and everyone has a breaking point, whatever their ethnicity.

Serbia should fear any future increase in mindless violent behaviour from its own people rather than outsiders. And the Serbian obsession with joining the EU - ie, adopting western ways of doing things - is going to bring with it a darker side of life in 'Paradise'.

In England, where I was born and lived for most of my life, This kind of attack is not unusual after ten o'clock at night, more often by alcohol or drug-crazed gangs than individuals.

Think yourselves lucky...so far.

'Raso' says 'kick the westerners out'. I assume he means out of Serbia and I hope he's only joking.

If he's not, then let me remind him of the hundreds of thousand of Serbs living in western countries, many of them permanently. In my country there are almost 100,000, many of them born there, and they often live better than we do. I have no problem with that because, I'm proud to say, we English are a mongrel nation anyway, and our Serbs - which includes the Serbian Royal Family, by the way - are an intelligent and resourceful addition to our wealth.

But I do have a problem with Serbs who think it's OK for them to live - and live well - in my country but regard as either audacious or insane those westerners who choose to live in theirs.

Does it occur to those Serbs that we like Serbia?

I didn't mean to deport them all - the decent, law abiding immigrants. The Chinese are hard workers and people do enjoy their restaurants; they are learning the Serbian language and culture and there've been some marriages between Serbs and the Chinese from what I heard.

But I think Serbs don't need any more violent criminals or crazies who attack Serbs in their midst.

The Chinese are pretty much among the best immigrants you can have. I live in California and the predominantly Asia school districts are the best, I will send my children there. They are extremely successful and economically beneficial. They also make great efforts to assimilate into the culture of their host nations, often taking first names that are native to that area. Their food, culture, movies, music, art and well just about anything are just awesome. Not to mention that China itself is a good friend to Serbia.
