Ah, but Joe, therein lies the issue: by saying "There is naturelly no government-directed persecution because of the desire to join the EU but there is surely a tacitly encouraged, tolerated one." I'm taking it that you're inferring that any violence in some form goes back to the government however small, that in the end, the violence (however minimal, which by the way you acknowledge, so it cannot be as bad as in Kosovo) is orchestrated. By that rationale, any violence in Kosovo directed against Serbs, would somehow have Pristina's hand on it too. The argument you claim seems to conclude that the Serbian government, even after all these years, is still fixed on harrassing non-Serbs.

I'd say more likely that these attacks - which do occur in Vojvodina - are basically isolated events at the local level, just like Albanian harrassments of Serbs in Kosovo. I'd like to think that our elected officials to government have better things to do than beat up on their minority commuities.

Good comment Philip,

also worth noting is the fact that Decani is on the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in DANGER LIST - and that with all the protection afforded by KFOR/NATO - endangered from Daves "courageous" race of Kosovars - while your at it Dave could you give a historical account of this "kosovar race" who seem to have sprung up out of the earth from no-where it would seem as I can't find any historical account for such a race but you clearly have stumbled on a myth or two!

Another church under the "supposed" protection is the 12th Century church in Prizren - Our Lady of Ljeviš
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Our_Lady_of_Ljevi%C5%A1

- this wonderful protection provided by NATO enurses that this church is continually damaged and it's lead roof removed repeatedly!

It is curageous from you to aknowledge at least some harrasement. There is naturelly no government-directed persecution because of the desire to join the EU but there is surely a tacitly encouraged, tolerated one. By reelecting Kostunica there will be no improuvement.

When you were in Serbia and Kosovo you must have met the special magic Serbs and magic Albanians. These are the ones that come from the planet Albright. You can spot them easily in a crowd. The magic Serbs have cloven feet, a tail and horns and are nasty to everyone. The magic Albanians are dressed in white, walk bare foot on rose petals, have halos and are simply lovely to everybody.

Dave, if you were a "religious missionary" then surely you would know that the Visoki Dečani monastery dates from 1327.

Hardly a myth. The word "myth" when used in with conjunction with Serbs and Kosovo is quite a soundbite, but without any real substance.

Dave,
What 'myth' is that which you are talking about? You sound like Richard Holbrooke. The 'Serbs-are-racist' line you spin is racist in itself and you should do your religious prosletysing work elsewhere where people are feeble-minded enough to fall for it because people will have their own religions and don't need you to try and impose yours on them.

Dave

I have been a religious missionary in Serbia after the war in Kosovo. In fact, I have been back two years ago. While I love the Serbian people as I have made some very good friends there, to be honest, I have not met any nation that has so much nationalism and even racism against other nations. To this day, the Serbs literally hate the Turks for their occupation 500 years ago. On the other hand, I had a chance to visit Kosovo, and I see a totally different race down there. Men who have long forgiven the Turks (muslims and christians alike), and are so courageous to even try to forget the horrible Serbian crimes less than a decade ago. Congratulations Kosovo on your independence... Congratulations Serbia for finally being free of a myth made up...

Joe, Vojvodina is a far cry from Kosovo. In fact it's amazing Vojvodina and Kosovo are part of the same country! Vojvodina had, and still has, an economic level comparable to that of Slovenia. The ethnic minorities you speak of in Vojvodina are hardly treated in the same manner as you claim for the Albanians. Hungarians are harrassed by SRS radicals and displaced Serb refugees from Bosnia and Kosovo, but the region is FAR better than Kosovo and Serbs live side by side with their neighbors. No one is chasing them out, no one is imposing a homogeneous ethnic ideology on them, and no one is threatening their cultural autonomy. So I cannot answer your question about the so-called persecution since there's not any state-wide persecution to speak of.

I find it very amusing, how all the Serbs on this forum can do nothing but repeat to themselves "that this is only a proposal". It is the only thing that is left to say, as everything else that they have predicted would happen DID NOT HAPPEN. Face it, you lost in the most miserable manner possible, and now Kosovo will be an independent state. It is a hard reality for you to accept, as you were used to playing lord in someone else's house, but no more of that now. Concentrate your efforts on Vojvodina, because down south it is WAYYY too late.

This can hardly come as a surprise to anyone. The charmless Finnish politician/unelected UN bureacrat, with a proven anti-Serbian and pro-Albanian agenda advocates independance. Independance for "Kosova"? It would seem that the cowards in the EU, like the war-mongering Americans, are still trying to appease the Islamic world by siding with muslims in Europe, while bombing the hell out of them in the middle-east and Asia. A continuation of the same failed Clinton era evil. Serbia will survive, and thrive.

Milan

pre 17 godina

I can only suggest Kosovo Serbs to start packing their belongings and start moving up north to Serbia - there is no life for them in independent Kosovo. There is too long history of violence between two nations, so no need to stay there and hope Albanians will want to live with them; and no international forces will want or be able to protect them. Lets just hope that Serbian holly objects will stay intact, which I seriously doubt.

Vojvoda,
though I can understand you, I can only add: One cannot turn virgin, once virginity is gone. That's why the K-Albanians don't trust Serbia anymore. In fact, every one is aware of that, even the Russians.

Brian

pre 17 godina

This is a total rejection of Serbia ever being a part of EUrope or the west. It thinks that the Albanians and Kosovo are more important. THis is pretty much the end of Serbias relationship with UK US etc. I guess Russia is an ally.

Phil

pre 17 godina

Well said, Vojvoda. And I support and admire Serbia’s independent spirit and its desire to rightfully hold onto its own territory. For as the great Country singer Aaron Tippin wrote in one of his songs: “you've got to stand for something or you'll fall for anything.”

Nonetheless, I really don’t think that the Kosovo issue is an attack, by foreign nations, on the deeply Christian faith and values system that the Serbian people adhere to. I simply think that other nations want to avoid another potential catastrophe in Europe. Now that may be naïve thinking on my part but that’s the way it looks to me. As it stands currently, however, it just doesn’t look like the Serbian people and the Albanian people can live together under the same territory unfortunately. For these two groups of people are simply very different. And while both sides have done things that are horrible and wrong in the past, I think that forgiveness is key in order to move on.

And so, I think that Serbia should stick with forming potentially strong and beneficial relationships with prosperous nations like the United States and Great Britain while cooperating with the Albanians on future issues for its own benefit.

Serbia shouldnt be the first country right now to willingly budge and surrender to these kinds of fools and embarrass itself by allowing injustice masked as 'a bridge to the West' to help destroy everything Serbia stands for.

As a Serb, Orthodox, and human being, I am appalled at such rewards to sinful acts, and I also do not support divisions of borders, but unifications and amelioration.

I really do envision a strong multi-ethnic, united Serbia with Albanians having their right to locally rule in Kosovo to the great extent the Serbian constitution allows them.

Lets not attack Serbian, Slavic, or Orthodox civilization by doing evil in Kosovo and Bosnia-good, brave, loving people will never allow it to happen.

I hope Serbians and Albanians unite around the spirit of goodness, God, and Jesus Christ, and act together to deter forces in Serbia and Albania that are willing to sell-out morals and justice and who are willing to commit violence and evil acts on others for territorial expansion.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Our_Lady_of_Ljevi%C5%A1

- this wonderful protection provided by NATO enurses that this church is continually damaged and it's lead roof removed repeatedly!

To Mike
It is curageous from you to aknowledge at least some harrasement. There is naturelly no government-directed persecution because of the desire to join the EU but there is surely a tacitly encouraged, tolerated one. By reelecting Kostunica there will be no improuvement.
