lollee, Vojvoda in so many aspects is right!

You suggest that "who you know" is purely a Serbian issue but the fact saddly remains that in many EU nations the silent majority (and proportionally poorer by the day) are becoming more and more dissatisfied with the ruling political and business elites who 'lord it up' and keep all the jobs in the closed circles that have become all the more harder for an outsider to break into. This is less and less of a society based on meritocracy then you might imagine or be given the perception of.

The UK has become a society that is dominated in "it's who you know rather then what you know" ethos. A select few have become immensly richer which scews economic indicators. If you look into the detail the signs are extremly worrying for a future of greater divergence between the haves and have nots. Most worrying is the diminishing middle class which I suppose you could call the "had" - so you now have the select few and ever richer haves, and lesser hads and have nots! Education is now proving to be the greatest catalyst in ensuring that no one can enter the haves as they network in excessivly expensive private schools and go on to the best Universities before getting those wonderful jobs the rest of us can only dream about! Beyond that this elitist decandence is made up of all the same minded "yes" people that dominate organisations such as the technocratic functions of the EU aswell as many governments, media and finacial institutions.

Vojvoda, Have you visited Serbia? If there is a country that operates more through "veza" and who you know..please let me know. The word pay off was invented here. I supposed a system that functions, a court system that actually makes judgements, and universities that do not allow tests and diplomas to be bought...are lowering the standards..huh?

EU is lagging behind in values, so why lower ourselves? I am glad their is strength in EU to uphold principles, but unfortunatly the only opinions that count are the ones why can pay off more people.

We shouldnt adapt to the world if it is wrong the way it is. We must wait until a country like Serbia can safeley enter an alliance, be respected, and her people protected.

Are Serbs actually interested in joining the EU? There is a skewed perception here that the EU needs Serbia more than vice-versa. Once again there will be more lost opportunities!
