Here's another finn with a another status proposal:
Albanians can go to Albania, Serbians to Serbia, and lets leave Kosovo to those minorities who haven't raised their hardly at all. Then serbians and albanians can come to visit their former land, not at the same time of course, or you'd end up fighting probably. Lets face it, albanians and serbians can't even agree to the fact that they disagree...

Ahtisaari really isn't very bright. He has chosen to snub Moscow although the latter can destroy his proposal with one veto.

Obviously Ahtisaari nursed a deep grudge against the Russians. And I can offer a reason for this -- I don't claim to be right and admit that this is just speculation on my part: There are 2 parts of Russia -- one bordering the North Sea near the Norweigan border and another in the Karelia region -- that used to belong to Finland. The 2 countries fought over this territory around the time of World War 2. At one stage, the Finns captured these territories but were eventually defeated by the Russians. As a result, Finland lost her North Sea coastline and the Karelia region. Do other readers share my view?

Quote: “However, we are using other channels to communicate with Russia,” Durlot specified.

Translation:

We-Martti Ahtisaari and US dept of State are using The Washington Post and Richard Holbrooke to communicate with Russia.

This isn't just bad diplomacy, this is poor politics. It is an act of stupidity.

More to Come?

"Durlot added Ahtisaari’s office hoped the UN Security Council would pass a new Kosovo resolution “by the end of June”,"

- clearly they realise it would take many more months of arm twisting & persuasion to get any chance of affirmation. That said, Ahtisaari's in deep water if he is using UN money to fund jolly's around the world to push only his perspective - can't see him being round much longer given that he himself sees his efforts complete.
