When is anyone going to understand, let alone Carla del Ponte, that while decent enough governments will try as far as they can to accomodate justice and human rights, their basic remit is to protect the interests of the countries they govern.
When Germany pushed for premature Croatian and Slovenian independence in 1991-2, they were not doing it because their citizens were shedding tears over these countries - they did it for, as the German foreign minister, Hans Deitrich Genscher himself said quite openly at the time, for German interests. These interests were carried out after that nation's reunification and as a test of their strength without the Russians to worry about, and even where it meant supporting known Nazi sympathisers such as Franjo Tudjman or religious fundamentalists like Alija Izetbegovic. Justice was never part of the equation as far as former Yugoslavia was concerned, just as it isn't with regard to Iraq.
Mrs. del Ponte's concern for international justice may be honourable, but she needs to understand the real motives behind how and why nations act as they do.
