Lollee: If you had read my first comment you would know that I was born in the USA & still live here. I am not anti-American because I would have to be anti-myself! I just don't sugar coat reality and pretend like most people do. You are right; Serbia has serious problems that need to be fixed, that said so does America. I am talking about hypocracy, not about taking sides!

Zoran, I can tell by your comments that you are one of the "novi dosli". If America is so awful, you are more than welcome to return to your country of origin. Nobody is forcing you to stay. In regards to Serbia, as a person who is currently living here -in Serbia, I must say that it is true our country functions only 20% of the time. Corruption, lack of infrastructure, crime, monopolies, nepotism..etc. It is all here alive and well. Along with injustice for the common man. Atleast in America, the average person has a form of FUNCTIONING government which yes, is not perfect but it is better than anything here. It is sad for all those people who emigtated to America and trully hate it. There is such a brain drain here, everyone who can is leaving fast from Serbia. I look forward for you to return Zoran and maybe you can be the one who makes that difference!!

Amerikanac: Of course anyone should have the right to critize anything or anyone, that's called freedom! What I am trying to say and what your not understanding is that it is hypocritical to critize someone else about something that you are even more guilty of. Does not the hypocrocy invalidate the critisim?
Luciano my Italin American friend. For all your seeming intelligence, apparently you have some sand in your ears from your head being buried so long! Axel Rose? Are you sure you should be quoting him? Why not quote Courtney Love? Democratic process? You mean the right to choose between one sell out (Repuplicans) or the other corporate sell outs (Democrates)? You call that democracy? More like dictatorship! Do you mean how our dictator can bomb or invade other countries without a decloration of war by congress like the consitution, written by the great founding fathers dictates? If you think this is domocracy maybe you should get the F--- out! People like you are why the whole world hates us! American dream? Are you living in the 1950's? Times have changed and you have not caught up yet! Do some research with your great educated brain and find out for yourself that America has the largest gap between rich & poor than even many 3rd world nations, and that a person has a better chance for the American dream in Canada or many other European countries. What about our prison population that exceeds the rest of the world even China? If this is democracy then I am King of the world!

"Do not confuse political issues with quality of life issues because most Americans
(myself not included) do not care where Kosovo is or even Canada for that matter"

That is part of the problem, most in the US have no idea where Serbia, Toronto, Melbourne or Sydney is and even a less knowledge of the political and historical landscapes of those countries. But the US tried to provide leadership to the world. They need to provide leadership in their own school system and teach about the world around them.

You say that American system is the most corrupt and you have no chance of advancement yet you live here for the most part of the year.
Stop with the bashing-you chose the military you got burned with low wages. If you chose some other field it might have worked better for you.
My point is this is the only place you can achieve anything you put your energy, period. No other country will give you that. Your choice was not so prosperous - so stop bashing evrything else.
And if you feel so much love about canada move there-afterall most of the deserters from US army are there to keep you company.

The USA is the most welcoming country in the world. If you are bright and ambitious-no matter where you come from- you have nothing to hold you back from achieving the American Dream.Do not confuse political issues with quality of life issues because most Americans(myself not included)do not care where Kosovo is or even Canada for that matter(Is anybody still surprised to know that Pamela Anderson is from Canada?).It is the right of a free man to choose where he wants to focus his attention and we all know that people in America would rather think about what interest rate they qualify for on their home mortgages than the fact that Hutus wanna slaughter Tutsis. It is for each INDIVIDUAL to decide what life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness means to himself and his family. As Axle Rose famously put it"Love it or get the F$$$ out".The US does not prevent anybody from seeking a life elsewhere. The Dixie Chics hit the nail right on the head when they said they are not ready to make nice for criticizing Bush and his cronies and I am not ready to make nice with any fellow American who would rather complain than take action to change things through the democratic process.

Thank you for your comments. I say that we all have the right to point the finger anywhere we want to - even when we cannot fix all the things we want to at home and perhaps especially when we cannot. This does not prevent us from trying at home. For those who have two homelands, I wish them three if they want them. The more places we call home, the more privileges we have and likewise the more responsibilities we have to point fingers. With so many things to fix everywhere, who can legitimately deny me or anybody else the right to criticize something, especially if the criticism includes an alternative proposal?

Zoran

Tony: First, I live in Serbia for part of every year and will get my dual citizenship this year. I have also traveled to and stayed in Canada. In both countries the people have vastly more personal freemdom then we have in the USA! That's a fact! Your argument is that we should just accept the propaganda and pretend that we are free and there is no better place instead of facing the truth and making things better here. I served in the US Air Force and I love both my countries enough to want to change things for the better instead of putting my head in the sand as you do! Amerikanac: I agree with you and I am not saying that Serbia is perfect! Plenty of work yet to do there. I simply am saying that the US has no right to point there finger when it has so many of it's own problems to fix.

(Tony, 7 March 2007, 16:54)

Your are largely correct, however I prefer Canada.

The US just bombed the wrong side during the Yugoslav civil wars through misguided leadership. This would have not happened under late US Presidents such as Richard M. Nixon, Gerald R. Ford or Ronald Reagan and even George Bush Sr.

Now the US might make even a more dreadful mistake, electing Hillary J Clinton to the Office of the Presidency.

Pat Buchanan, please run for the US Presidency!!

I was born and live here as well however I would never live anywhere else. And I have tried places like Japan, England and Russia. Not even close.
I am not saying US is perfect but considering alteranatives it is the very best there is. We all know how things turned out when England, Germany and Russia tried to rule the world.
If you have so many complaints move to your ancestors country and see how things will work there for you.

I was born and live in the USA, and I can tell you from my own experience that there is absoult coruption in our courts, government and corporations. The USA violates international laws almost every day and even our domestic laws (which are put in place to serve a minority of the rich & powerful). There is no country that I know of that violates the human rights of its citizens as much as America does in light of the fact that our consitution says that we have the right to life, liberty and the persuit of happyness. yet America still kills its prisoners, if your born poor there is no longer upward mobility, you stay poor. what about happyness? Americans are the most depressed people in the world. Maybe they should take the plank out of there own eyes insted of looking at the speck in others eyes!

That is a really nice comment that you made there with regard to the breaches of international law. Why don't you just read the article below this one and see why and intervention was necessary...let me just take a little paragraph from it:

"Contrary to that, only 4 of the 588 dead bodies recovered in Serbia had shrapnel wounds. This represents only 0.6 percent of the overall number. All the other victims were killed by bullets.

Bullet wounds were found mostly in the heads and torsos of the victims, Baraybar clarified. In his view this tends to show that they had not been killed in action. The soldiers killed in action as a rule have wounds in the unprotected parts of the body, such as face, neck or groin"

amerikanac

pre 17 godina

The report is largely accurate, and perhaps somewhat too lenient on Serbia to be of much good. By the way, Serbia (and anybody - other countries, Serbian NGOs) should feel free to write such reports about the US and the UK. So why doesn't Serbia do it? Perhaps precisely because it would make a difference somewhere.

Jack

pre 17 godina

This report could have been written for my own country. If you change the name Serbia for UK the report would still be accurate except for one thing. To our shame the UK has yet to instigate a Special War Crimes Court to prosecute officials for breaches of International Law and the Geneva Convention in connection with the War in Kosovo (and Afganhistan AND Iraq).

It would appear that the USA should now stand for UTOPIA STATES of AMERICA.

I know that if the article was entited UN reports on human rights in USA, then everyone would think is was a fair assessment of America today.

There are many loyal Americans citizens who would agree with me, and you could never accuse them of being biased or lying on this matter.

You only have to read articles on the Web written by loyal American patriots, read political debates by Congresspeople, study American history, and remember recent Political Scandals to make up your own mind.
