Philip, you are right in one way. But resolution 1244 does refer to Rambouillet which refers to "the will of the people".

Fundamentally, the will of the people is what will make Kosovo independent. A democratic system, which Serbia wants presumably, is incompatible with Kosovo being part of Serbia. Albanians can only be incorporated in Serbia by brute force, murder, killing, and so on. We, or Serbia rather, tried that and it didn't work too well.

albi, UNSC resolution 1244 does not at all mention anywhere the phrase "the will of the people".

Mr.Fried says there will be a solution "within this year".

last year they said the same...and you believed it.

it seems like Albanians refuse to see the facts by always turning everything upside down, only to have something to believe their myths to become true...
it´s so sad.

there will be a lot of articles here until the problem is solved, but there are some facts that simply cannot be ignored.

1244 is such a fact that you can´t sweep away...

if it was that easy, you would already have your "independence"
...but instead of reiterating that nonsense on and on, you still believe in your "friends" who gave you promises they cannot keep, and in "hero´s" who called you to spend for their advocacy, then got 7.5 million euro´s and all of a sudden bought luxury-mansions in Priština´s "diplomates-quarter" for that money...
but although that is no secret, you still call those (simple )criminals "hero´s"

dear Albanians, there is a long way to go until you come to reason, I guess.

ask yourself if this was all as conclusive as Fried likes to make out why then the delay? The Serb elections were the excuse before but if plan A-htisaari is what is planned why are the US waiting till May for a posssible vote that requires 9 affirmative votes out of 15 ????

Everyone talks about what the K-Serbs should do, or how the K-Serbs are manipulated, and why the K-Serbs should face reality.

How about this....

K-Serbs should be the main representatives at the negotiating table for the Serbian side. Belgrade can talk and shout all it wants, but in the end, the representatives go back home - to Belgrade. K-Serbs are the ones who are caught in this apparent Dialogue of the Deaf crossfire between Belgrade and Pristina. I'd be real curious to know what a K-Serb south of the Ibar would want.

Dane

pre 17 godina

Concrete actions on the ground can be done with the people who are interested for it and who knows what do they want. It is difficult to cooperate with obstructive people who only wait orders from Belgrade.
Finally, K Serbs must think and decide for their destiny and future. Nobody can do that better than they would do...

My guess is that Kosovo Serbs will be secure as soon as they stop acting like ambassadors or the Serbian republic. Serbia presents a real threat to Kosovo Albanians since they openly claim that Kosovo is Serbian land and they have many times in the past acted with the intention of turning it into Serbian land.

For anybody who can think, it is easy to understand that Albanians don't want the Serbian army in Kosovo.

If you insist on 1244, then we insist on 1244 too. That resolution mentions "the will of the people". So let's have a referendum and get it over with.

You seems to be a bit late with your statements. Things are moving much faster than you can follow...
There is no single argument for bringing things like it was before 1999. 5% of population can not decide for 95% of population, you can only dream about it...
Rules, rights and obligations for 5% of population can be and must be regulated by international standards, but nothing more...

Let's keep to the subject header please....

Obviously since the K-Albanians don't have the energy to implement or guarantee the status of Serbs, it's up to the IC to do it......Regardless of posters' squabbling..

This leaves me to the question, perhaps the K-Albanians should mature out of its' Independence rhetoric..

Clearly, if you see it coming your way, why would Pristina keep spiting the minority?

Why does the IC have to twist Pristina's arm to accept something that SHOULD be guaranteed anyways??

We all know Belgrades' political shortcomings....Perhaps Pristina needs to approach politics different, and start addressing their constituents in the enclaves...

Your calls of Independence are merely repeated echoes..

It can only come with some maturity and concrete actions on the ground...

princip,

u seem like safeguarding everything that is in line with “the Serbian interests”. one needs only the minimum of rational thinking to understand that it is against the Serbian nation interests too to bring back those military forces that caused misery here in kosova, or Kosovo as you would like to call my motherland. there is almost every family here stricken from those forces (including myself). I can not imagine how could I live in a society where security forces (police and army) are the same one that caused suffering and pain to me and to my relative.

man, wake up, regardless of those un principles you are referring to hundreds of time in ur writings, it is simply impossible to do that, to return back Serbian forces in here.
I wrote several times, despite the hard pain the war caused to me and my family, I am not the past oriented person. Sincerely and with my deep conviction I support politicians like mr. jocanovic. Only following his reasoning we can build and prosper future for both nations.

regarding the UN principles. the UN principles are created by people and can be changed by people, even though there is a distinct principle which states the following: “each nation has the right for self-determination”. UN principles are formed on the bases of political realities (they recognize the political realities). We both know what is the political reality today in Kosova.

Hard to understand how a Serbian official can say Ahtisaari`s plan will block UN SC. Serbian is not even member of the council.

Ahtisaari`s plan is a product of UN and should be adopted. Anything else will only cause more problems for both Kosovo and Serbia. Now more than 6 weeks later Serbia has no government because of the status settlement. Foreign investments have also fallen. The only thing Serbia is doing is to postpone Kosovo’s independence with some days, maybe weeks.

Independence will come before the summer (Surroi, Ruecker, Ahtisaari, Ceku)

mr samardcic sounds to be so confident in his statements, resembling very much in his predecessors during the milosevic’s regime before the nato strikes. the serbian politicians and military commanders were so sure at that time so started to clean up the dugagjini area from albanian community. i am a wetness of that period.
it is a matter for regret that serbian politicians have not learnt the lesson yet, even after such a dirty wars in 90’s. only those who are blinded from national-chauvinism can reflect in such manner, adhere their hopes on blocking UN SC.

nevertheless, there is a hope. the sound future relationship between two nations can be build only through personalities such as dimitrie tucovic, in the past.

the hope lies in people like mr. jovanovic and his party partners, at present.
