Can Serbia officially condemn Srebrenica genocide?

In the wake of the ICJ's ruling, it is still unclear if Serbia would condemn the Srebrenica genocide.

RE: Hate Speech

Ernst Zundel was jailed in Canada for six years' for spreading hate speech , namely denying that 6MIL jews were systematically exterminated by Hitler's Nazi's between the years of 1941-1945

Over 750,000 Serbs, Croats, Jews and Gypsies were exterminated by the Croatian Nazi puppet regime of Ante Pavelic between the years of 1941-1945 . (Vad Yashem Holocaust Museum)

No genocide occured in the former Yugoslavia but a civil war. Some comments on this site warrant hate speech and in a truly democratic society , those statements would not be tolerated. Freedom of speech does not mean defamation and hate speech deliberately accusing a nation of crimes that did not occur, not proven to occur and not proven at the highest government levels.

If Slobodan Milosevic systematically and knowingly committed genocide, prove it, post the figures , source and proof.

If not, then the country of Serbia and or individuals have every right to sue the appropriate individuals and the medium to where it is broadcast as hate speech.

Don't become like the Turks. You can rest knowing you all were not collectively responsible, but don't deny it never happened.

To try to compare a civil war to Yugoslavia to a mass Genocide in Turkey against not only the Armenians but the Greeks is incomprehensible. It is estimated that over 2MIL Armenian and Greek Orthodox died.

Maybe you should do some research, actually visit the region, read some books by such author's such as Lord David Owen, former Canadian General Lewis Mackenzie stationed in Sarejevo, former UN General Colin Rose, Former UN General Morillion. Not one of them termed the civil conflict in the former Yugoslavia as Genocide.

“An even nicer gesture would be to recongise that the Bosnian Muslims are really Muslim Serbs.”

Actually part of the problem is BOTH Serbs and Croats claim the Bosniaks as their own. The “Politically Correct” view these days is that the Bosniaks are an entirely different ethnicity and always have been. However, I personally think we are all brothers and that the violence between our people is pointless. We should celebrate what we have in common, not what separates us.

Serbia's politicians have hurt greatly their nation for a decade by minimizing their crimes, by refusing to admit that war crimes and horrendous atrocities have been perpetrated, that the army was implicated in a massive campaign of rape against the women, etc. etc. Milosevic, his wife, Karadzic, simply downplay all these accusations as isolated events, and the Serbian population in general was pointing at the Muslims, accusing them of tàdoing the same. The Court has decided otherwise and the Serbs now should accept the verdict and make sure that no more Serbs would ever commit the same crimes by sending to the Hague all those accused of crimes.

Is any country to blame for the actions of people in other countries, just because they share a common language and heritage?

It's like saying that the government of Pakistan is to blame for militants who killed people during the subway bombings in London.

Most of these bombers happened to be born and raised in England.

There is nothing wrong with a modern, responsible Serbia condeming the terrible acts which occurred, not only in Srebrenica, but to all peoples in the entire former Yugoslavia.

Serbia should condemn without reservation the massacre at Srebrenica in 1995. Then Serbia can await the Bosnian Muslim governments apology for Naser Oric's state sponsered genocide against non muslims in the villages around Srebrenica in 1992. 3,500 Serbs were butchered by Oric with the full support of Sarajevo. I look forward to Sarajevo following Tadic's good example and without reservation condemning those massacres.

Either taking direct part in, or failing to directly stop, genocide is bad enough. Denying it is even worse. I was actually shocked to find some Serb commenters yesterdday actually deny anything happened in Srebrenica, or simply downplay it as an isolated event. I thought this defensive smuggness was only present in Turkey.

Now that the collective guilt was rightfully removed, Tadic is absolutely correct to introduce a bill condemning the genocide and doing everything he and his government can NOW to address the history and come to a clear understanding of the past before alternative histories become solidified in the minds of large segments of the population.

Turkey's ridiculous denial of the Armenian Genocide comes after over 90 years of official denial, causing ordinary Turks to take such a distortion as actual truth. Serbia, don't do this to yourselves. Don't become like the Turks. You can rest knowing you all were not collectively responsible, but don't deny it never happened.

That’s why we can only act accordingly and condemn the crime”, Mićunović said.

That's not what the Muslims and the world are waiting on. What they demand and what all nations have asked for years is the immediate transfer of Mladic and Karadzic to The Hague, to face justice. They have committed a genocide in Srebrenica, and Tadic accepts this verdict from the Court. What is he waiting for to put under arrest all the war criminals and send them to the Hague. Who cares about Tadic's condemnation if Mladic stay in Serbia, revered as Holy Sava?

It would be a very nice gesture indeed if the Serb parliament denounced the Bosnian Serb actions as genocide.

An even nicer gesture would be to recongise that the Bosnian Muslims are really Muslim Serbs.

Then maybe you shall see the error of your ways.
