RE: Trieste and WWII

Tito attempted to invade Trieste after 1945 and was only held back by the Russians and Allies in doing so.

Dalmatia, Istria has always had a strong Italian influence and was under the Venetia empire as you can see with the city names Dubrovnik(Ragusa) etc.

These regions were turned over to the Kingdom Of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes in 1918 as a bargaining chip from the remnants of the Austro-Hungarian empire of which Croatia was part of and under Hungary.

"While not denying the killings, Mesić condemned efforts to remember the victims without addressing the whole history"

Please keep digging Mesic. I agree with the Italians but like Mesic suggest let us bring out the full truth regarding atrocities commited to all. Every death shoulds be accounted for. Only when the full truth is out on the atrocities commited by all on all will real reconciliation begin. Communism tried to hide all tragic events that happened in the 2nd World war bar attacks on it's self but this just stored up the hatred which came boiling out in the 90's. It is time that all parties in South East Europe look honestly at the history of the 2nd world war and recent events and the real tragedy (not exagerated and biased - Victor) and real story is told - only with this unbiased account of the events in the 2nd world war and during the 90's can everyone from Yugoslavia move on.
