“Close ties between Russian and Serbia built throughout history serve as a solid basis for a progressive development of Russian-Serbian relations”

HAHA! Who is he kidding?! We will see very soon how these Russian-Serb relations 'very deep'.

It is more like, Russia-using-Serbia-as-a-pawn, than Russian-Serb relations.

You guys are too optimistic. Russia supports Serbia, which is OK, but Putin's letter seems more to be an encouragement for the new gov. to start fresh and lead Serbia toward democracy rather than hinting anything about Kosova.
Also, since US supports Kosovoa's independence then, as most of times, what US says that is what is going to happen.

pre 17 godina

NATO, under US guidance of course, bombed Serbia to oblivion on Kosova's behalf just 8 years ago. They did that even in the face of Russian and Chinese resistance. Too bad for you guys, but as the saying goes “one man’s loss is another man’s gain”. Don’t get me wrong, we are not being let off the hook that easy, we have to make some gut wrenching compromises, but we will do so for the sake of independence, peace, and prosperity.

North Korea just gave in. Iran is going to be defeated in Iraq and they will give in. Also, let’s not forget about the rest of the Islamic countries in the region which back Kosova, not particularly just because of our faith (we are largely moderate Muslims), but because our status is very closely tied to the Palestinian situation. Even there, Israel supports Kosova’s independence, a direct signal to the neighboring Muslim countries that Israel would also support a Palestinian state if the extreme anti-Semitic rhetoric and influence is calmed down.

China has no particular fidelity towards Russia, if anything they want to be the superpower of the East and not have to share it with Russia; they are looking out for their own. Yes they hold most of US's debt but not just in good faith. China bought that debt because they realize the US and UK GDPs are still the strongest of the industrialized nations and they have the largest Consumer market in those two countries in the world.

The west realizes that you are Russia’s proxy, and they are punishing Serbia over and over for it. Why continue to be in such dire situations? So the rest of the world is stupid for wanting to join the EU, and Serbia is the only smart cookie of the bunch? It is this hubris that has led your country astray.

The only reason Russia does not want the Kosova situation to resolve is because they know the solution would also aid in the resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, which would then calm down the anti-US sentiment in the Middle East region and ultimately it would lead to disengagement of US’s forces in that area and allow the US to continue to prosper as it has. Russia wants the US bogged down so that they can buy some time and re-build their strength. US defeated Russia once during the Cold War and it will do it again. You can’t blame a champion for being a champion.

Kosova will gain power in this region, just like Israel did in the Middle East after WWII. We will gain this power because the current superpower wants it for us, to protect their interests of course, but so be it, our interests are closely aligned with theirs any ways. .

What is Serbia basing the "illegal" imposition on the sovereignty of Serbia argument on? UNSC 1244 refers only the FRY, and does not mention Serbia at all! There is no longer a FRY, so that argument and resolution is out of the door.

As far as the 1919 agreement where Serbia’s border were “defined”, that can be reversed when the situation requires it so. As an example, after WWII, Germany, a fully sovereign country was divided into two separate countries until the late '80s, when the two countries decided to re-join. The reasoning of course was that Germany engaged in illegal acts against it's citizens, the neighboring countries, and the rest of the world (largely in line with the recent history of Serbia), and as such had lost all internationally recognized legal protections that it chose to overlook when it decided to attack others. Sound familiar? It should, you are living it right now!

Serbia, you made your bed, now you have to lay in it. Happy Valentine’s Day everyone. God Bless These United States of America, and God Save the Queen.

What Napolitano said about "Slavic bloodthirsty hatred and rage" sounded to harsh to me for inclouding all slavic people.
On the other hand, its clear that Europeans are working to end once and forever "Slavic bloodthirsty hatred and rage".

Russia clearly will be the real winner in all of this. Regardless of the outcome of the Kosovo status talks, opinion in Serbia will now be divided between Western and Eastern leaning people and politicians. This is actually a good thing for Serbia’s future. Russia is our natural ally and by improving ties with her, Serbia will be much better position when dealing with the EU member countries. We should withdraw immediately from the NATO process to show Russia that we appreciate her support.

My first post on this site in October said... please show me the LEGAL MECHANISM.

BG wants to see a legal mechanism b/c it has an interntionally gauranteed contract from 1919 that is signed by the American President Woodrow Wilson & the League of Nations. That contract says the direct opposite of what is now proposed. this is a very significant fact and an inconvenient fact for the proponents of independence.

What do the proponents of independence propose BG do with the "1919 Contract?" And what should it do with this "New Contract" intended to replace the "1919 Contract" if "Any Contract" can be replaced at anytime by anyone who happens to have the BIGGER PENIS?

Does the internationally recognized and gauranteed concept of Sovreignty exist or does it not? Does it exist for some and not for others? If it doesn't, can you show me an "a priori internationally recognized legal platform by which we shall suspend national sovreignties? Or does the biggest penis simply do what it wants?

This is the issue. A VERY SERIOUS issue. It has been debated for 7 yrs by very powerful men from very powerful countries. It's determination will influence future events. If it were not serious... K would already be indep and no one would think twice about it.

To this day, the West needs BG's signature. The West wants BG to "be constructive" and sign this proposal in order to provide legal cover for recognizing Kosovo independence thru the UN. (telling you to bend over so that they can consentially rape you).

The West uses the threat of EU exclusion and offers an European Future to scare the Serbian Population into forcing their leaders to relinquish K. It is coded threat... and it is empty threat. There will be no such isolation of Serbia. No bombing. No sanctions. No delay on EU entry.

Anyone with eyes can see that the same countries threatening S are at the same time capitalizing Serbia's large tenders thru Foreign Direct Investment. The economic cat is out of the bag.

As for "liberalization"... Once an economy begins to be capitalized it is being liberalized. Serbia has the lowest corporate tax rate in Europe at 10% -- this is the clearest sign of liberalization coming out of BG and the EU just loves it.

Don't be fooled by silly headlines intended for mass consumption. Stay the course.
There is no reason to signm anything if it's already lost... why in the world should I sign it. Just take it.

Finally, to all interested, Pls note the continuing deterioration of the situation in Bosnia. It is very clear where this is headed.

The Serbian parliment will once again stand united upon it's principled stance regarding it's territorial integrity - the Russians support this and will stand by this.

The Serbs are willing and cooperative to all negotiations that respect international law. Lets hope a win-win will come about in the talks - at some point plan A-thisarri has to insert an obligation to 1244 and the intergirty of Serbia's international borders as reconfirmed by 1244.

the serb lobbying-groups worldwide made a more than good job, but we got to be honest, he was the key instrument.

russia and - after yesterdays ok for atisaari but not for his plan - eu are on line, there´s just usa left. they will obey to political realism, just like in the pfp-case.

especially the current situation in us is in favour for us. we shouldn´t even have to take big summs of money into the hand, just have to make it clear that no one who dreams of indiependent south-serbia can get us-president!

i think yesterdays showing of eu-dividence (and therefore the end of dreams about bilateral acknowledgement) was finaly the turning point, and this happend 2 days before statehood day! i like that!

Putins support and content in his letter that states compliance for international law hints at UN veto. Certainly difficulties lie ahead in kosovo but especially for rioting albanians. With Russias support comes Chinas support.
