Princips, sometimes governments have 'reasons' that even the reason does not understand. It will be so simple to recognize Kosovo's independence without prerequisites and new resolutions. These are words to secure Serbia!

Berkant and Victor - if that was the case why the need for a new resolution to supercede 1244 - which reconfirmed the territorial integrity of Serbia over it's province of Kosovo & Metohija.

Like I said Status Quo has never had as many comebacks!!!

I agreee with Berkant: since 1999, the Serbs have lost all credibility in Kosovo and the afficient controle of the province. Kosovo in free! The Kosovars have won their freedom over a brutal dictator who had striiped them of all their rights.

I wish Berkant and all his people happiness, prosperity, peace at last «et longue vie».

I think is better to remind the readers that in practical world we are independent since June 1999. Please per in mind that: Serbia since tht date never had control a)control of borders and territorrial control, b)we dont pay tax to Serbia, c)with international support we buid our institutions. I can account million things that shows our independent from Serbia. so to conclude the comment, we all can guess this summer or next summer, but we cant ignore the fact that we are already INDEPENDENT.

- that sounds familiar - when did we last hear that? Oh yes - Kosovo independent in 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 but certainly in 2006!!!

Even the old rock band - Status Quo never had so many come backs!!!

To the Serbian people accusing Kosovo of being a mafia entity (and I fundamentally agree),
just to point out that the Tito's Yugoslavia had been a drug dealer state during all its existence.
Let me know if someone is not aware of that truth.

Belgrade is not the EU's puppet like Pristina. They will do what is best for Serbia and its people. Personally, I'd let that crime infested money drain go. Serbia doesn't need that ball and chain anymore.

“Western diplomats say that lack of cooperation on Belgrade’s part would be seen as rejection, which would undermine Russia’s role as Serbia’s protector”, the Priština daily reports.”

Wishful thinking. Russia will be regarded as Serbia’s protector merely by the statements they are making now. It’s a true win-win for them regardless of the outcome. Russia has absolutely nothing to lose by supporting Serbia’s position, and probably much to gain by doing so. The main question is whether the Western powers will offer Putin enough concessions to appease the growing and hungry Russian bear. Honey anyone?

Seems to me that we the one thing we can all agree on, is that this proposal is BS, that its only designed to postpone things until the time is ripe for Independence. No one on either side believes this proposal will stop at autonomy.

That being the case, its no wonder that Serbia would oppose it. Essentially we’ve been lied to by the European community. We had a “gun” held to our head to sign up with resolution 1244, only to have the promises made in that document ignored completely. The bombing resulted in an acceleration of the crimes committed by the Serbs against the Albanians, and then those crimes were then used as justification for bombing in the first place. It seems to me the International Community and the KLA leadership knowingly took actions that resulted in much more destruction of innocent civilians in order to win the propaganda war. The politicians on all sides used the deaths of civilians to consolidate their power. A truly disgusting situation.

I do hope that regardless of the outcome, that no more innocent civilians lose their lives. One innocent death is too much. I know the Albanian civilian population has suffered terribly, and I would like to see some sort of real and substantial restitution paid to the victims. I even support allowing large areas of Albanian dominated areas be allowed to engage in the right to self determination and join with Albanian. However, as a Serb, I can not support giving away those lands which were the foundation of our civilization. I truly wish that we can find some other offer or concessions that would satisfy the majority of all Albanians everywhere.

Keep in mind the Kosovar acceptance of this proposal (leading to Independence) will effectively be the nail in the coffin for the Right to Self Determination for those Albanians living elsewhere. Is retaining those areas of Kosovo with a Serb majority population worth crushing the dreams of your fellow Albanians elsewhere? Or would it be better to compromise a bit (in the form of partition) in the hopes of reaching an agreement or getting support for those Albanians still left out of this agreement. I would be interested in hearing from an Albanian from Presevo, Macedonia, Montenegro, or Albania about this. Focusing on small parts of the Balkans rather then dealing with regional issues only leads to problems in the Balkans. We need a comprehensive proposal dealing with the rights of Serbs and Albanians everywhere. We have the same issues with our population and our desire to the Right to Self Determination. We are actually natural allies in such a quest. We should be working together on this.

When you talk about drugs you better think of Serbian women, everything started from belgrade. Albanian and makedonian patroll discovery the Serbian transporters. Serbia is a WISECRACK for ballkan countries to go on Europian Union. It is sure we are going to be INDIPENDENT regardless of your diplomacy that deny this fact, serbians and albanians can live together they can be neighbours if they didnt provoke albanian morlas and countrylove cheers.

"Anonymous Western diplomats". I've learned never to trust anything coming out of Koha Ditore unless it is first corroborated by legitimate news sources in the West as well. Koha Ditore has been predicting imminent independence so many times already they could make a book with all the headlines predicting such an outcome.

Anonymous comments mean zilch. They are often propaganda steps or test balloons. In many cases they are made to deceive the otherside (mask one's strategy).

so, is it time again that koha is anouncing an indiependence-party? which try is it, number 7 or number 8 since 2005???
hey "kosovars" don´t get angry if i don´t mark it on my calender! it´s not just because of koha, it´s mainly because this party will never happen. XA XA

As I remember last time they seized a truck with heroine going to greece It was traced to a Serbian women living in Belgraade. So even if it is true that drugs flow thru Kosovo it dos not mean that it is Albanians transpoting it.

But with the Independent Kosovo there will be a stop to this imidiatly.

Last time anonymous sources predicted that UNSC will recognize Kosovo's independence end 2006. It didn't happen. So I shall no longer waste any more sleep over reports based on anonymous sources.
