Guys,
If Independent was up to Serbia or ex-eastern block countries of course we would never had that. But we cant ignore the fact of American-British interest in Eastern Europe, and the easiest way to control that is through their alies Kosovo!!! Remmember the Prishtina main bulevard is called "Bill Clinton". Its seems ironic think!!! Its same when those eastern coutries were saluting Lenin!!! What we can do guys welcome to modern world.

being so impressed by this bunch of commentators,I just forgot to add a real fact:

today just another european country ( EU-member by the way ) joined the group of countries opposing to the idea of an independant Kosovo.

welcome to the club of countries, respecting the rule of law, souvereignty of states, and all other principles of the civilized world, ...Poland!

to all those who are writing nonsense ...

please, don´t bore us to death with allegations.

please don´t mention your greater Serbia - propaganda, while desperately demanding for a greater Albania.

please inform yourselves at least a little bit.

your comments show why KiM is today one of the poorest regions of europe.

to Stan:
as somebody who seems to show some really severe lack of information, please let the moral out of discussion, it´s a weak means of argumentation...

Independance is questionable....and should be decided by Belgrade and Pristina, not EU, USA and Russia. Whats more important is to stop all the crime coming out of Kosovo. How do you liberate the people? It will take decades to have western morals. Effectively Greater Serbia loses but greater Albania wins! Essentially creating the same problem for neighbouring countries. Lets hope this proposal brings peace to all kosovars and its neighbours.

Telling it like it is... an Albanian Kosovo state - much like Albania - will become a poor, mafia infested, chauvinistic, drug-dealing, human-traficking, legal institionally-deprived country. The rest of Europe knows this. That's why they are so eager to grant (Albanian) Kosovo independence -- to get them placated for at least a little while. Just look at the state of Kosovo and Albania -- no person in his right mind would want to traverse there, nor invest there unless they are criminally inclined. Kosovo will become a 3rd world nation and Albania will remain the backwater of Europe.

Obilic,

Have you ever been to Albania, Sir?
I was there vacationing in Albania and Serbia this summer. If you think that Serbia's cities such as Belgrade, Nis, Kargujevac have prospered better than Tirana and Albanian costal cities than you are dreaming my boy. To me it looks like while you guys have been waging wars, Albania has been rebuilding itself slowely but nicely. Even Kosovo in spite of its financial troubles and unemployment has been rebuild to quite a good extent and don't ask me how since I have no idea where all that money is coming from. It's true that Serbian inhabitted areas in Kosovo look dramatically poor in comparison to Albanian inhabitted areas, and that is very sad in my view, but you guys have done it to yourself. I am sorry to say, but what I have seen so far in Serbia, especially cities I have visited such as Pozarevac, Nis, Vranje, Budjanovac, and parts of Belgrade, it's undoublty Serbia it's slipping into a third world country.

Kosovo would be better off as an independent state,as the idea of a Greater Serbia is an extremely dangerous idea that needs to be put to rest.

Those who advocate a Greater Serbia need to get a life,as they're flogging a dead horse, just like they were doing just before Montenegro regained its independence last year.

My brother Serbians, the finaly and the end comes racional politics.
Rusia and China is not your "doors" for your future.
Your future is Serbia in EU common with Kosovo and Albania and Skopje ("macedonians")Greece,Albania and Montenegro.
You can't win the war if you are not in the war.

To Obilic,
Whatever Russia says and does will be limited to its refusal to recognizing Kossovo as a sovereign state. Don't you understand that this plan was meant as Plan B after Russia refused to go by the first proposal for outright independence and recognition?
Historic land it truly is, but not the way you see it. If it were historic to you, you would not have burned it, would not have killed there, would not have expulsed you very own citizens.
Albanians might know or might not know how to rule themselves, but they have the right to rule themselves. As for your worry that they will ruin Europe, don't worry about us. We are half a billion, and Kossovans are only two million. Get out of the Middle Ages and come to senses. As I wrote in another posting today, start thinking of Kossovans as neighbors, not as "failures". If you want to know why, think of an answer as to which side was cheering last night.

There is only one direction to take and only one place for Serbia to go as it is for Kosovo and all the neighbour countries – go West and be part of Europe, this is the place they all belong.
Looking back or looking east is no solution for a European future.
Serbia is finally happy getting distanced from her medieval era of ruling by killing, Kosovo should be happy of getting the chance to rule her own life and both developing toward two new, value based European countries – Ahtisaari proposal and US and European support of it create all the premises to make this a reality.

jovan

pre 17 godina

things are developing, and I am afraid I have to tell my albanian "friends" : use your brains instead of cheering around!

...since Ahtisaari avoided to answer any questions at the press conference except the statement that this is only a proposal (!) and his final statement will be presented to the contact group, I would interprete it as his only sound opportunity, waiting for a reaction of the european community. if there, within the EU lasts a divison on the independence issue, my dear albanian commentators, you will be very unhappy with your old cookies.

so much for your cheering, it´s worthless.

1244 is binding law. if Belgrade does not agree, there won´t be any change of borders. of course Russia and China are also still there

Obilic's comments represent the mentality that prevails throughout Serbia. It is precisely that kind of thinking that has made Serbia into the pariah that it is today. 4 lost wars and a failed Greater Serbia ideal would lead one to beleive that Serbs learned the lesson...Obilic obviously still hasn't.

to Obilić:

the russian response is already known. much more interesting is the outcome within the EU...

if Spain, Cyprus, Czech Republic and those others who are against independance remain at their standpoint, I would like to see, how the EU wants to come to KiM without a legitmate solution...within the EU itself.
I feel good about that.

cheers.

Serbia did a great job. they never caused any wars in the last century, and the balkan countries becuase of that are the richest in Europe!!

Obilic

pre 17 godina

lets get the Russian responce!! Im willing to bet they feel a little different than the UK does! Im picturing in my head, Kosovo plunging into 3rd world status like its neighbor to the south, Albania! Such a historic land with such importance would be left in ruin if Kosovo gains independence. Its obvious Albanians do not know how to rule a nation. Albania is pretty much a failure, why give them another chance to ruin europe?
