«If you dont believe me, type in 'serbs' in google images: the first picture is of a man holding a gun to a little boys head.» Until the Serbs come clean with their past, and ADMIT what they wanted to achieve, and what they did, and why the killed 1 600 kids in Sarajevo, what do you want us to think of Serbia and the Se rbs in general? Again, 1 out of 3 Serbs have voted for radicals, and we know what the RADICALS have achieved!

John simmons and J. Ham:
The west is not concerned with the people that because of patriotic purposes are using the religion as justification for macabre acts, but with the threat that that pose the atomic armament of Russia, China, Iran and North Korea. Both of you, should be aware that if during the last 60 years there were no USA (as it was during the period mentioned and is still today) in present days, all Europeans could speak Russian language as mother tongue.
Yes, it’s true that most of Albanians in Kosovo are Muslims, but not the ones that mixes the religion and patriotism in a same box : during the war the Serbia, as members of KLA units were also Catholic and Orthodox Albanians. Why(maybe you will ask this question)? Well, because they are Albanians and that their national proud was humiliated by the Serb forces. There ia also general interest of all Albanians no matter of religion: unification of territories of ex Yugoslavia(Kosovo etc.) with Albania.

This will only serve to accelerate the brain-drain which has been already in the process since 1991. I will never come back to Serbia.

It got Kosova the best result....bypassing the Security Council veto, if there is one and DIRECT RECOGNITION OF KOSOVA BY CG EURO NATIONS. Thanks serbz for the this boost!! We'll remember ya all for this.. :)

This is not a Serb game, this is an American Political strategy! To the Serbs this is not only Intellectual Property/Law but International Boundary Laws that are being taken, but a wealth of History and Culture. Now I am not Serb, or an Albanian, but Kosovo is a important part of Serbia in many ways, Kosovars are now people of Kosovo NOT ALBANIA! This figure is 90% of the Population, and coupled with this is the fact that this population % is Muslim. America now wants to take advantage of this statistic, this will look good, because they will have technically a Democratic Muslim entity and under full control.

In truth the West don’t fear or worry about Kosovars, or never have done. In fact if you remember 99% were scared refugees, a fact of war. The 1 % were trained by the West, financed by the US, and air and ground support by the West. Without the west they would have either been killed, or still roaming the mountains.

The West is concerned however with the Diaspora, and the migration of a percentage of the population to Muslim extremism. Including the fact that the majority of the populations versatility of switching sides. Kosovars are very quick to love the one that feeds, and take rather than give, its part of the society matrix, and cant be helped. This ugly society trait stems from the lack of culture, or the willingness not to accept a culture other than one that is outside. This will take decades to eradicate, and unfortunately in that time the 1% will steal from its own people, i.e. the leaders. These leaders will also become traitors to its own people, Ceku will have moved out, back to his mansion(s), Ramush will live comfortably in Western Europe. While 2 million live with the consequences. Sadly 90% of the 2 million will be subject to poverty as they are now!

But the West has a prime example of a Democratic Muslim state. We in the West will see this model in the Media, and be proud that our tax dollars has achieved such a wonderful thing.

The Americans have cremated Mladic a long time ago and scattered his ashes to the winds knowing that the Serb's will never be able to find him. This way they can say that the Serb's are not co-operating with the Hague. The Americans love it like this because the Muslims have given them much free oil and will continue to give them free oil as long as they do the terorists bidding by giving them Kosovo.

????, if kosovo is not a muslim country then why are 90 percent of the people are muslim? Why was Mr Sedjiu speaking with Arab league for support for independence? Kosovo albanians revereted from Christian to Muslim when the ottoman ruled for 500 years to escape paying land taxes. During my tenure in kosovo 99-06 Alot of muslim organizations built mosque and even paid a monthly stipend to those who would grow there beards and cover themselves. Please don't say it is not true because ???? you don't live here and you dont' see how things are actually in Kosovo. Was i here I 500 years ago - no, but most of the albanians in albania are christians. Humm, i wonder why skanderbag(spelling)stop the expansion west with Serb allies and drove the ottomans back. I used to live in kosovo but now i work in the middle east. Now you know where i am and mr ???? still remains hidden. :)

May God have Mercy on the Serbs!

I wonder if Mira Markovic will try to re-enter Serbian politics now that Seselj's party took 1st place. Between the two of them they should be able to capture a majority next time.

Things are looking better and better for Kosova, in fact I'm predicting that the Kosova will own Serbia in about 15 years.

BTW, Congratulations VOJOSLAV!

blag, DS and DSS are not going to form a coalition unless kostunica is PM and that wont be easy to do as DSS dont want that at all costs. Look becuase of kostunica DSS wernt able to live up to their masters expectations and allow serbia to give up Kosovo! Tadic's bosses are not happy right now and they wont allow him to form a gov with kostinica getting in the way again.

"?" is not me.

Something interesting. Most read in bbc.co.uk right now: Nationalists 'lead Serbia poll'.

BBC had also a section called: Serbian elections voices. Sonja book seller says: "The prime minister is a nationalist, but I want Serbia to move closer to Europe. And there can never be a solution to the Kosovo question if we keep the present prime minister."

blag

pre 17 godina

guys you are really reading this wrong. the point is who has enough to rule... not who got the most votes. obviously the 5 democratic parties will get less INDIVIDUAL seats than the 1 radical party. but when you add the democratic parties up they total 55-60% of the vote vs 30% to the radicals. this is simple mathematics. when no one gets enough votes alone... it is the coalition that wins. the coalition will be comprised of democratic parties (probably the same makeup as the last govt).

balkanupdate
"I am really surprised by the weak showing of minority parties: only 7 seats? Just to remind everybody, minorities in Serbia consist of about 18% percent of population, but they will be represented in the parliament as if they were less then 3%."

Isnt it their own choice tho? I mean if minorities boycot the elections they shouldnt expect representation thru seats in the parliament either...

You wrote "Quiet negative PR for Serbia, everywhere in the news I see: Ultranationalists won the elections in Serbia."

On the contrary. It is our best ever promotional campaign sending directly to Polt, Rice and so on a clear message, namely your pressure got no results at all.

Labinoti

pre 17 godina

Blag: I see your point. I read the results right. If you count parties individually, Redicals got the highest number of seats in the gov. They shouldn't win any votes for Serbia's good sake. I am very familiar with this party by the way.
I hope that Democratic parties will work together so they will make up over 50% of seats. Otherwise, it seems there will be a mass. I also hope that Serbia will look toward the future and not backward like it has done in the last two decades.

blag

pre 17 godina

labinoti: you read the results wrong. the deocrats have won 55% of the vote (but they are split among one another). if you count he socialists then 60% of votes went to democrats. as for te 28% radical vote... these are western creations. people who are pissed off at 15 yrs of beating up on serbia. in timew their voice becomes weaker.

?

pre 17 godina

very interesting....i think there will be trouble. the west would like either tadic to win or the radicals. these are the best outcomes for them. the west do NOT want to see kustunica as PM so i think the CIA/saros funded DS will not allow kustunica to stay on as PM. I am very interested as to how a government will be formed.

balkanupdate

pre 17 godina

I predict a stalemate.
Kostunica will insist in staying as the PM, but the DS will object, and with good reason: they are the second largest Party in Serbia now.If you ask me, the most natural coalition will be between the Kostunica camp and the Sheshel's party, but it will not happen because the world will go ballistic.
I am really surprised by the weak showing of minority parties: only 7 seats? Just to remind everybody, minorities in Serbia consist of about 18% percent of population, but they will be represented in the parliament as if they were less then 3%.

????

pre 17 godina

Congratulations. Since Radicals won, you are going to have some of the problems Palestinian authorities have with Hamas.

Now I am neutral: If the radicals were real Serbs then they should have asked their voters to vote Tadic something they did not. They made it easer for the West to give Kosovo independence. Quiet negative PR for Serbia, everywhere in the news I see: Ultranationalists won the elections in Serbia.

blag

pre 17 godina

i stand corrected... nice showing by LDP.... but look at what cost???? tadic suffers.

meanwhile kostunica was able to do better than expeced.

in other words... split govt. if kostunica gets g17 (remember djelic and dinkic do not like one another)... we have tadic camp with 85 about seats and kostunica camp with about 85 seats. and radicals with 65. however... will tadic even work with LDP??? looks like the exact same coalition as before. good news for those seeking to stop kosovo indep.

Labinoti

I am still surprised how can people like Radicals win the majority vote in Serbia. This tells to all EU countries that Serbia is still in the shadows of nationalism. Also, it seems to me that many Serbs, and some who live abroad like Blag, Jovan, etc. in this Blog haven't learned what the reality is.

To ????,

Your question of diaspora communities and patriotism/nationalism is a very intersting one, and I'd be bold enough to say that most diaspora communities are more nationalistic than members of the home community (how one defines nationalism, along civic or ethnic lines, is another story).

With this in mind, it's not a surprise in my area of America (New York, New Jersey) to find Hungarians of 2nd, 3rd, or even 4th generation, still passionately refer to Transylvania as a part of their "nation". The same holds true for Greeks and Constantinople, the Armenians for Ararat, the Germans for Silesia and Pommerania, and the Croats for Hercegovina. I also am not surprised at the level of passion we all show on this site - both Serb and Albanian - for what we think should happen to Kosovo. Many Serbs here (Anthony, Princip and Blag) are living in either UK or US. Sidi has mentioned he lives in NY. I believe Nick (Kreshnik) also said he was born in Djakovica. As for myself, my father was born in Yugoslavia (Kocevje, Slovenia when it was still the German Gottschee) and my mother comes from the Carpathians (Slovakia, Romania, Ukraine). I have my own passionate feelings about the area too, and as an Orthodox, sympathize with my fellow Serb co-religionists, but not to the degree that I ignore the presence of other ethnic groups. I mean I still call it Constantinople, and always will, but I've been there, and know it's Turkish and will be so for quite some time.

But Blag also raises a great point. There is, or should be, a difference between nationalism and patriotism. I think to be patriotic means that we take pride in the cultural heritage of our homeland and want to preserve its historic and traditional values - sometimes even more than people currently living there. To be nationalistic however, more often than not, denotes a sense of self-proclaimed righteousness and privilege to a region or a moment in history, which also tends to ignore any alternative, or competing versions, of that history from non-group members. Thus, it's no surprise Serbs and Albanians fight like crazy over who gets the final bragging rights over Kosovo since it has been an integral part of both communities' histories.

i will never live in serbia... but am very interested to see a prosperous serbia and am involved. serbs are overwhelmingly like this (even to the 3rd & 4th generation). i see the same trait in other nationalities, but not nearly in the same degree (usually the homeland myth dies out within the 1st-2nd generation). the answer to your question is that serbs however have a very strong national myth and this keeps the connection going. any country with a strong myth cycle has the same traits.

Look at the Media, Muslim is being brandished as 90% majority. Historically NO!, but politically and the need for it to be by the US make Kosovo 100% Muslim. Cant you see the political reasoning!

Look at what happens in the next 6 months, it won’t have full independence, it probably never will. But at the moment it serves as a good PR stage for the war on terror. In essence 99% of the population don’t even know what independence is, and don’t realize the cost. They will be waving Albanian flags and playing Albanian music, to the 99%, months later they will understand nothing has changed apart from the culture they know will not be in the forefront, no more Albanian flags. This will be a shock, and then they will understand that the rest of the world has no real interest in the plot of land when the donor money and grants have no grounds.

This power plant is a prime example of wasted funds. The major problem with the old power plant (KEK) is simply people don’t pay, so I cant understand spending billions on a new one, its economical and finical suicide. Ah, but the donor cash is in play, world bank are still in the picture, and for a kick back, I can get funding from WB! However this will all turn and this is where the real problem will start.

The place offer nothing, absolutely nothing, it does have a historic past, and under the umbrella of its intellectual and legal owner it can survive, but this needs drastic change, and equality from both sides.

Right now Kosovo is part of another agenda and Independence fully was never and will never be granted unless Belgrade gives to green light.

John Simmons

pre 17 godina

Serbia must not let go of Kosovo. This is a religious matter turned into political play by the US in order to clear a decade of damage. It is very clear the need for Kosovo Independence is purely a political symbolic move to prove the west is involved in reassuring the Muslim wants and needs. Kosovo will be a media fronted pawn as a new working Democratic Muslim model.

This is the only strategic ground for the US and its counterparts. Kosovo is a political move towards appeasement and the imbalance the west has impacted on the Muslim community of the last decade .

The Irony is that Kosovo is far from a real Muslim entity; in fact this makes Kosovo ideal for the West’s game play. A Democratic Muslim state, assisted by the US and its counterparts, that is not a real Muslim state but rather a generic media or social driven outcome of a Muslim state. However the latter will not be mentioned or even discussed.

In truth this could be a good thing, but at whose expense? Certainly not Kosovo in regards to economic and boarder relations. This if anything will scare investors, and attract a melting pot that has no real orientation thus leading to economic collapse.

Once this is used as a successful transition to working Democratic Muslim State, the media will do its best to show success, the media owned by the West and the media that requires this solution because of the current situation with the Muslim world. However this will stem the willingness of other nations to assist as a priority or as a honest interest. In fact the ties Kosovo must harness will from this date forward will be other Muslim states, and all this under the watchful eyes of the West. Kosovo will become a tool, as it currently is on the workings of East v West, but with all the mechanisms in place for monitoring and control.

In fact this premeditated planning is concurrent with the Bush administration bigger picture and is a key solution, the word Muslim is key in the new strategy, and will be played many times, but not like a Stradivarius, but just another broken record. The bigger worry is that this plan will in a decade or very soon may just backfire and become a thorn in the side of Europe, and a ideal hub for what the West do not want in regards to foreign policy or war on terror.

Again, 1 out of 3 Serbs have voted for radicals, and we know what the RADICALS have achieved!

John Simmons

pre 17 godina

Since the country was split up raped and occupied by the western powers especially united Germany (thrown out under humiliating forms twice in history by the serbs) the popularity for the nationalists doesnt come as a surprise.

Western powers and their corporate parrot media continues it´s bias towards Serbs and Serbia as a whole, punishing it in inquisitorial show-'tribunals' for not obeying orders and their place in the New world order.

This might be the chanse for the serbs to get rid of their western leaning traitors and quislings imposed by anglo-american powers and regain some honour.

i will never live in serbia... but am very interested to see a prosperous serbia and am involved. serbs are overwhelmingly like this (even to the 3rd & 4th generation). i see the same trait in other nationalities, but not nearly in the same degree (usually the homeland myth dies out within the 1st-2nd generation). the answer to your question is that serbs however have a very strong national myth and this keeps the connection going. any country with a strong myth cycle has the same traits.

finally, i think you need to distinguish between the words NATIONALISM and PATRIOTISM.

Talk about propaganda. No other nationality has been so demonised and continues to be demonised by western media. If you dont believe me, type in 'serbs' in google images: the first picture is of a man holding a gun to a little boys head. And by the way Martha, the majority of television media in Serbia are western owned, so youre arguement is meaningless. This is not an election between hardliners and reformists, as western media would have us believe, but instead it is a contest between the sell outs and traitors in the 'democratic' block and those that are for the interests of Serbia in the 'national' block.

pre 17 godina
