"The American Political System"

The American system is ruled by two parties, democrats and republicans and any additonal parties must have substantial funds in order to register for votes. As for checks and balances, it is only between two parties through the congress, senate and the executive branch through the President.

The lack of more parties is detrimental and in fact less democratic. The system in Canada is slightly better as additional parties have been formed but the majority government has far too much power, the US system has at least the Congress and Senate where the Republicans or Democrats can counter-balance each other.

The disadvantage of having too many parties is of course stagnation and no bills passed, the advantage is avoiding the mess Bush has got himself into in Iraq but following a neo-Conservative policy not supported by most of the American public.

In America we have many political parties but only 2 are relevant because this encourages enough of a checks and balance on the political system without causing mass confusion and ineffective governanace due to the need to form alliances. There are enough differences between Democrats in the party and between Republicans in their own party to cause enough debate about issues without grinding the process to a halt. The past 5 prime ministers in Sweden have been from how many different parties?

Sweden has over 30 parties with its 9 million people.

I dont know what logic you use to paint the picture of it beeing a negative thing to have many parties. In my opinion its preferable to have many parties rather than one like in the Communist times, or be a two party system, that will not even represent the majority of the population.

The Serbs should join forces in working towards a positive future and STOP balkanizing themselves into so many different political parties. You are NOT presenting a positive united image to the world if you feel the need to field 21 different parties in a country of 8 million people.
