gustavo, Anyway, if it makes you happy you can just not recognize Kosova as an individual, and when you will go to Prishtina speak in Serbian. I advice you to hire a translator and, eventually, some bodyguards. Have a nice day!

LOL!!! Great analysis! On the mark and easy for Serbs to understand. I am happy knowing there are people out there untinged by past failed battles and myths of some past that never amounted to much in reality.

Dear Anthony: I read the article you mentioned. I advice you to read more serious newspapers than "Kommersant". Do you really think Russia will stand against the U.S. and the E.U. to defend Serbia. Why didn't they do it when NATO decided to bomb Serbia? Don't you find a great coincidence that two problems are being solved at the same time: 1) Russia will enter the World Trade Organization and 2) The status is being solved? Don't you see a bargain there? One more question. Why didn't Ahtisari did not present his plan before the elections in Serbia? You know the answer. In order not to boost nationalism. But if the solution proposed by him were as generous for Serbians as the one sketched in Kommersant, then tell me. Why not to present it before elections in Serbia? It would have certainly been a great suport for Mr. Tadic and pro-Western forces. Don't you agree? The only logical answer is that Ahtisaari did not present his plan before elections in Serbia because it will not be pleasant at all for the Serbian electorate, who would probably punish pro-Western candidates. So far everything is pretty logical. No? Now tell me. Which result could be unpleasant for the Serbian electorate? The one presented in Kommersant? Obviously no. It probably contains recommandations of some form of independence. Otherwise, what for to hide it until the end of January. Anyway it doesn't matter. In 5 or 6 weeks we will know what happen. Don't suffer so much my dear, anyway we are little fishes and nobody will ask you or me for our opinion. We may just suppose. Anyway, if it makes you happy you can just not recognize Kosova as an individual, and when you will go to Prishtina speak in Serbian. I advice you to hire a translator and, eventually, some bodyguards. Have a nice day!

Hi,folks!
I'd like only one simple answer for very simpe question .
"Which nation would agree to fulfil all that standards appointed from international community, and still remain rulled by state and nation that killed them for more than Hundred years"? As you knew we are fulfiling those so called "standards before status" so why should we fulfil those standards?
To remain under serbian rules?!
Wake up people!
Nobody would agree on such solution.

I have been saying to the independence crowd that their Uncle Sam has enough in his hands, and just wants to get rid off the Kosovo albatross as soon as possible. Some backroom deals are in the offing, it seems. If this is confirmed: (http://www.kommersant.com/p729445/Abkhazia_South_Ossetia_Kosovo/),
Kosovo will NOT be getting independence. I repeat, Kosovo will NOT be offered independence. So time to come back from the clouds and start some serious negotiations.

People like kostunica and his mp are old map of thinking.... is 21st centry we should look ahead, not backwardssssssss

Boris,

Good Speech Mr. Kostunica! But how are you going to get Kosovo i Metohija back? Are you going to invade Kosmet? Are you going to run over international troops over there?
If anyone is betraying our brothers and sister's in Kosmet is your unrealistic estimate about international community.

Serbs need a better deal than what you are offering them. They need a leader who can tell them Kosmet is your home and there is no other choice but participate in Kosovo institutions.

If you don't open your eyes and get a better deal for Serbians in Kosmet, you will have nobody to fight for in Kosmet in less than 5 years.

It's a really a shame of how we are paying with Serbian land for every nationalistic adventure Serbian politicians have gptten Serbs involved in the last 15 years.

Politics can be exhausting but it is tempting for one's self-expression and that is what I wish to do. In response to Fred's message, Kostunica is expressing what every Serb feels and dreams of 24/7. You say Kostunica is cheating the Serbian people, well I say he is doing the opposite by making Serbia's true united voice heard worldwide. Fred, you wouldn't know what effect Kostunica has on his people whether it be negative or positive because you're not Serbian, but I know it is the latter because I am one of those Serbs. Please rebut me if you feel it necessary.

Well said and let the west hear this again and again "No to 2 Albania's". The sooner that the ethnic Albanians in all of Serbia realise that they should act the same in Serbia just as Blair expects of people coming to Britain said "So conform to it; or don't come here. We don't want the hate-mongers, whatever their race, religion or creed."
Maybe if the ethnic Albanians learnt from such wise words then Kosovo & Metohija would see real economic development.

Maybe Koštunica should reiterate Blair word for word next time the UK ambassador to Serbia meets him.

Fred:

Answer to your question:
Q: If Kosovo was a heart of Serbia, why Kosovo is not developed as Belgrade district?

Kosovo has been essentially by Kosovo Albanians since 1946. The federation of Yugoslavia had to provide economic support to keep the Kosovo economy from falling apart. Slovenia and Croatia had the largest GDP and contributed a large portion of funds to Kosovo. This is part of the reason many republics did not want federation where the poorer republics such as FYROM and Kosovo were being supported by the richer one's.

The Equalization payment plan in Canada is very similiar.
The provinces of the economically stronger provinces contribute to a fund for the poorer provinces.

Kosovo cannot compete economically in any part of Europe. For her to become fully independant would be disasterous for Europe and a large drain to the EU.

Tadic should throw in Pancevo and the surrounding districts in southern non-Kosovo Serbia in an attempt to appease the unappeasable!!! His rhetoric in any other country is treason. His duty is to look out for Serbia's best interest.

The reason why the north is built up, is because crap flows downhill...
It seems that the heart is Belgrade, and it currently needs a triple bypass..
Hopefully there's a 30-year plan similair to Emancipation Proclomation, and they start investing in the South..

I hope Serbia in the next election will get some smart people to lead them, not Koštunica. All nations look forward but he looks backward. STOP cheating your people Koštunica and let them go forward. Q: If Kosovo was a heart of Serbia, why Kosovo is not developed as Belgrade district? I don't usually comment but these words to come from a PM of a state...no comments, I just feel sorry for the Serbian people.

The only part of this article where this lady was right, is the one about the forcefully returned land, which is exactly the case here. The only difference is that Kosova is being returned to Albania, but goes as an indipendent country.
Who says that Albanians cannot have two countries? Why not? Greeks do. They have Cyprus and Greece.

What is wrong about having two countries that have the same dominating language spoken in them

Albania and Kosova
Germany and Austria
Russia and Belarus
North Korea and South Korea
United Kingdom and United States
United Kingdom and Australia
United Kingdom and Canada
....
oops
Serbia and Montenegro
etc etc etc

It would be nice to wake up and try to recognize the reality Mr. Koshtunica. Serbian people are not as narrow minded as you... at least one would hope so.
