I’m going to ask this question again!

Is there a country in the world that has two presidents, two PMs, two governments functioning within that nation’s border? Correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t think there is any. So is it fare to say that Kosovo and Serbia are already two different countries with one thing in common, and that is their past?

Let me answer your question for you, its called Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Republika Srpska and the so called Bosnian/Croat federation have their state representatives. You then have representatives from all across Bosnia Herzegovina with the government in Sarajevo. You then have King Paddy Ashdown , an unelected European official you heads up this beaurocratic nightmare.

Let me show you democracy at work: Paddy Ashdown dismissed Bosnian Serb elected officials from the parliament.

Let me show you self determination at work: Republika Srpksa has been denied to seek a referendum as this contradicts the Dayton Accord.

Let me see it this makes sense-the Kosovo Albanians are allowed to wipe out UN resolution 1244 which guarantees the territorial integrity of the Serbia and Kosovo.

Does that answer your qeustion?

Good.

The visit of the Kosovan leader must have been to reassure Russia about the status of the 3 unrecognized republics in return for kosova's independence

Tatiana,

I hope you are being funny, and if so you have a very dry sense of humor. Please think for a moment and then argue. I never took these comments too seriously, but sometimes you’ve got to laugh with some of the ideas portrayed in this WEB. Honestly none of the people in Kosovo are worried about Russia. (if you don’t believe me ask my fellow Let me tell you why. Israel is the only country in the world that has become independent through UN. There were 56 countries who could vote, 13 of them were against the independence, and 10 abstained. Is Israel independent today? My point is that Russia can either veto or abstain but they will never be able to stop the independence.

I’m going to ask this question again!

as sure as the war criminal was, about the "non-delaying" of the status???

russia knows where it´s place is, especially a president that got into the kremlin because of the western attack on serbia (let´s forget gazprom´s plans in serbia).

dream on, dreamer!

if serbia wants realy to work with albanians and improve relation, they should start reeducate their people, distance from nationalism by accepting kosovo independence, by distancing from religious fanaticism by pressing the religion to its boundaries.
wake up, wake up
there are old-gost people who want to use this status quo to their own old interests. one of this is religion which in a modern world doesnt have enough ground.

sidi and blagqblag are both correct it is rather funny the whole situation.Bottom line is whether Kosovo is taken from Serbia or not history always seems to repeat itself. Good for the Serbs and bad for the albanians.

If the Albanians support Kosovo's independence and if they are really HONEST they must also support the independence of S. Ossetia and Abkhazia which are de facto independent from Georgia since 1992. If they bow to the American demands and reject S. Ossetia and Abkhazia's independence then they're lying.

The West does not care about Kosovo one bit. It does not care about Serbia either. All the West is looking for, by taking a tough stance, is some sort of agreement between Moscow, London and Washington. Basically some sort of tit for tat: We turn a blind eye on Georgia and chechnya for awhile, and let you join the WTO, and all you allows us to gain greater access to the B;lack Sea so we can secure Caspian Sea oil. I think these three countries will reach a deal that does not offer full and unconditional independence for some time yet because it is in their interests to gain access while creating a vassal kosovo. In the end, the West is only looking to secure something out of the process.

If it was succesful then I wonder why he did not immediatly declare independence? Or alternativly why Ceku has not asked the Ahtisarri proposal to be published immediatly and not on the 22nd January? Credibility is lacking when the same words are said again and again but no real substance follows.

Remember a resolution in the UN has to be acceptable to all 5 veto holding powers and this is the point at which the discussions will take place. Ahtisarri "proposal" is the starting point!

Roll on 2007 for the talks to really start! Maybe at that point Ceku can issue the same words again.

Russia new that Kosovo will be independent, so why to be remembered by albanians and history like the bad guy, for protecting serbia for nothing.
I'm sorry for serbs, but business means business, no old friends when you need them.

Like Patrick Moore said in his weekly analysis: Russia does not care about Kosovo one bit. It does not care about Serbia either. All Russia is looking for, by taking a tough stance, is some sort of agreement between Moscow, London and Washington. Basically some sort of tit for tat: You turn a blind eye on Georgia and chechnya for awhile, and let us join the WTO, and we in turn sell out Serbia again and don't give you any hustles in the Security Council. I think these three countries will reach a deal between January, when Ahtisaari presents his proposal, and March when the SC convenes. In the end, Russia is only looking to gain something out of the process, and not put a halt to Kosovo's independence.

"open and not prejudiced" does mean, in diplomatic language, that people participating at the talks kept fighting all the time
