Two things:

Firstly, lets all face one fact, Kosovo is an intrinsic part of Serbia, FULL STOP. As a Serb I welcome all people of different ethnic backgrounds in Serbia. I dont care if you are an ethnic Albanian, Croatian, Bosnjak, Hungarian, Nepalese, Eskimo. You are all welcome in Serbia (shame I'm in a minority here!!).

Borders cannot be changed on ethnic lines....that much has been learnt from the wars in Croatia and Bosnia. And quite rightly so, if the western powers refused to reward the division of Croatia and Bosnia along ethnic lines, then the same equitable policy should also be applied to Serbia. Why should she be an exception?

How about Angelina Jolie representing Kosovo/Kosova and Brad Pitt representing Serbia?I think this would get the interest of more people here in the US.

Frank,

To Billy,

I don't know what attractiveness has to do anything with leading a country or an organization!
You are looking for attractive men in the wrong place, LOL.

Betty,

There is a big difference between our country and Serbia. Unlike Serbs we are not a victim of propaganda, we learned a lot from their administration and we grew from that. Neither I, nor any Kosovar Alb that I know would think that Ceku’s visit to Russia would have changed Russia’s mind. Russians said: “…if Serbia will accept the independence so will us…” (which is never), and that is exactly what Ceku said to the citizens of Kosovo. B92 is a very reliable source, they never said such thing. Don’t you trust them? If not then why are you here? Don’t mean to be disrespectful but in order to make an argument you need to have the facts straight.

To all of you,

Ceku was invited to Russia as the PM of Kosovo. I thought Kostunica was the PM of Kosovo! One country with TWO PMs, one country with TWO Presidents, one country with TWO GOVs! How about that? I hope it is not a new style of governing because we are going to have WW3. Honestly none of the people in Kosovo are worried about Russia. Let me tell you why. Israel is the only country in the world that has become independent through UN. There were 56 countries who could vote, 13 of them were against the independence, and 10 abstained. Is Israel independent today? My point is that Russia can’t either veto, or use abstention, but they will never stop independence. What are they going to do, go to war for Serbia? They are smarter than that!

It’s just my view feel free to correct!

To Billy,
Ms Albright and Clinton already chose the best looking leader during the NATO operation over X yugoslavia. You remember Hashim Thaci? If not, google his name.

Listen, Russia signed on the Contact Group's delaration on Kosovo, publicized last spring. In this document, they all agreed that "there is no going back to pre 1999 situation" for Kosovo. And together they specifically pointed to Belgrade for being the major party to bring the Balkans to what it is today and accept full responsibility for what happened to their country.
When the security council passed the UN Res. 1244, that is when Russia/China told the world they agreed to Kosova's independence. It's just too bad many of you do not have training to read actual political 'decisions'.
Why do you think Tadic is lobbying heavily the western leaders? He needs some 'int'l" support and recognition of his nation, at this sensitive time.
But, the fact remains, most Serb people do not give a hoot about Kosova. Today, they are more concerned about the future of their families and themselves. As they should be. Most Serbs today realize that so much was lost for what? To meet int'l conditions so they could buy a loaf of bread at inflated prices? They all realize that they individually lost more value in the last 16 years and all because of a medieval fable called 'Velika Serbija".

Did anybody else notice that pretty much everybody involved in the political scene in all the former Yugoslav republics are fairly unattractive? Mesic, Ceku, Kostunica, Del Ponte, Ahtissari, Drnovsek, etc. etc. etc. are a funny looking lot. The first group that can find a good looking representative will win the political war! Am I right??? Am I right???

Ceku didn't even get to meet the Russian Foreign Minister. In Russia for a whole day! This is what is called a 'snub' in diplomatic circles. This was a very loud and clear diplomatic showing of how Russia sees Ceku and his fiefdom.

I agee and i don't expect much for Serbia from Russia(thats why we are pushing Serbia into NATO as fast as possible, one of the reasons is to move Serbs away as much as possible from Russian bears)but you should keep in mind that Russia from 1999 with economy in chaos and drunk, pathetic Yeltsin is gone.Today Russia, under KGB colonel Putin, has so much oil&gas $$$ that they don't know what to do with it,they have more then 200 billion $ oil made reserves and earn 600 million $ per day from oil&gas export,no wonder Gazprom is their main weapon today, etc etc, which all means their foreign policy is much more, let say...flexible then back in 1999.Just look what they do with former KGB traitors in London:-)To put it short: it wouldn't cost them almost anything,if they really want, that their ambassador in the UN Churkin raises hand and says "veto" in the Security Council.I'd say chances are 50-50%

why is it that if the albanian leadership tries to hide the fact if it is against their expectations? why couldnt they say to their constituents that the meeting had no positive effect and did not change russia's stance?

Yes Betty, we all know Russian stand on this issue and PM Ceku has allready told us, actuallu last night he was on the phone with VOA and we all heard the comments. He did not hide anything. But, you should know that Russian stand on Kosova's independence will not have any baring at all, becasue they know there is no going back for K-Albanians.
