By reading K. Gregovic, which I presume is a Serb, I had no option but to write this comment.
There are Albanians living in almost every country where Albania proper is, because those Orthodox countries, especially Serbia bit into more Albanian land than they could swallow, in early 20th century, when Turkish ottomans withdraw from the Balkans.

Kosovar Albanians do not have to know how to lobby, all what they are doing today is telling the truth to the international community. All what they are asking for is freedom, and independence, something they truly deserve.
Fortunately some powerful countries with strong democratic orientation are listening to their cause.
Serbs trying to label Kosovars as Islamic terrorists and many other things, it just show with what sort of people the Kosovar Albanians are being forced to negotiate for their own freedom.

Serbs are talking now about international law, and sovereignty of countries.
This is completely absurd when are talking about something that always defied, (hosting and protecting war criminals), and never cared to respect and only Nato Air force brought them to the negotiating table, and peace and some stability in Balkans.

Serbs have tried to ethnically change Kosovo, in Serbian favour, since they occupied it, which is just over 100 years ago.

Tens of thousand of Kosovar Albanians have been killed or forced to flee from their own ancient land, from different Serbian sponsored government armies.

And for Serbs they of course disagree everything I’ve said, but we just have to get used with disagreements.
They disagree that genocide was committed against Kosovars. They disagree that 8.000 Muslim man and boys In Srebrenica were slaughtered in just 15 days, most of them had to wait with hours in packed buses to be executed.
I just have to remind Serbs that Kosova is an ancient land and belongs to its own ancient people, the Kosovar Albanians, the direct descendants of Illyrians.

Serbs who come from the Karpats Forests, somewhere in today’s Russia, should forget their old habit of grabbing other peoples land because sometimes as it happened with Kosovo big bites might choke you.

Konstatine,

I said check the Archives in Paris and Washington, cause what you say expresses your wish of something that should have happened, and not what has happened. :) By this I assume that you're a Serbian, cause lots of them believe that they won many wars, including the last one 1999. (their wish of what should have happened).

RE: Albanian Nationality

Albania was specifically created by the European powers to satisfy the needs of the Albanians for a country of their own. The regions that were given to them were primarily Serbian, Greek and Italian land.

Albanians have their own nation, when is it enough?

The Albanian population is nearly fifty percent in FYROM which in its own right a false nation primarily composed of Bulgarians, Serbs, Albanians and Greeks.

Montenegro Albanian population is growing to close to thirty percent, so, should an autonomous state be created within FYROM and Montenegro.

The region of Presevo and Bujonovac has the audacity to raise the Albanian flag while lowering the Serb flag in a Serb State. If the English flag was lowered in London and replaced with an Albanian flag, what do you think will happen?

The Albanian population is growing in Greece as they illegally enter the country through Epirus. They are already demanding the Albanian language and culture to be adopted within the Greek nation.

The Albanian population through illegal trafficing is growing by leaps and bounds in Italy also.

Serbia is Serbia
Bulgaria is Bulgaria
Greece is Greece
Albania is Albania

Recognize those international borders which were set in the the treaties of San Stefano, Tready of Berlin, Treaty of Versailles or keep creating banana republics.

The Country of Yugoslavia subseded to all Albanian demands at the detriment of the Serb population. Albanian langauges was adopted along with Serbian in the Universities and Colleges. Autonomous states were created in the form of Vojvodina, Kosovo , and FYROM.

Why not let the Mexicans created their own state in Texas. Let Quebec in Canada capitilize on the recent constitution ammendment in Canada recognizing the Quebec nation within the state of Canada. What is the next step? Independance.

When international law is not followed, chaos follows.

I actually think those are reasonable requests. I also agree that Albanian culture has been stifled in the past by radical nationalistic elements of Serbian society, and that Albanians have a right to complain about it. If Serbia is to keep Kosovo, I agree a lot of changes need to be made to integrate Albanians into society. In fact, if the social and economic status of the Albanians in Kosovo were to improve, then the birthrate would go down, just like in the rest of Europe. This would help to ease tensions with the Serbs as well. So, in that case, developing the economy of Kosovo would be a true win-win situation for everyone.
All Serbia really needs is the ability to protect and look after the Serbian population of Kosovo, and to retain those areas that are most important historically. I recommend a land swap as the best chance of resolving this issue through compromise.

it seems that russia was not moved by cekus visit. is it because of the recent violent demo by the albanians? or is it the conviction of russia's leadership?

Serbia is acting very foolishly and spending its small sum of money thriftlessly. Don't you remember it was America which bombed Serbia to its knees, do you seriously expect they'll eat humble pie now ? Kosovo's fate is sealed and if Russia and/or China block a UN resolution, other countries will individually recognize its independence.

Serbia ought to spend its cash on its citizens' prosperity.

There is a big difference between K-Albanian lobbying and Serbian lobbying in USA. The K-Albanian lobbying has its roots from the begging of 20th century. The result of that is the State of Albania within its current borders (Woodrow Wilson at Paris Conference, check the archives), then it resumed in 80s and 90s, which resulted with the RED LINE drawed by George Bush Senior, in 92 or 93, and the NATO intervention lead by US in 1999. Serbian lobbying started in recent years, or two years after the Kosovo war. Serbian lobbying is using arguments such as Islamic fundamentalism (Kosovo is not isolated and international community is aware of everything that happens in Kosova, hence there is no indication up to date for that). However, despite that, all the processes in Kosova and around Kosova are a continuation of K-Albanian activities (lobbying) in last decades. Therefore, even if Serbian lobbying would effect these processes that would be after 1 or 2 decades, whereas Kosovo by then would be a recognised independent state.

Venable LLP is one the best (on top 10) and the most expensive law offices in the US,ask anybody in Washington who knows something about it and you'll get that answer.By the way, they work for Serbian community on Kosovo not for Serbian gov.For serbian goverment works BGR(Barbour,Griffith & Rogers)-the strongest pro republican PR company, they dumped gov. of Sali Berisha and choosed to work for Serbian gov. instead, that says something, don't you think...?So, inform yourself before writting this here.

Sidi, I think such comments are very premature considering that for the last 10+ years there has been lobbying by the ethnic Albanians from Serbia for a second Albanian state on Serbian territory. Lets see now what has been the result since NATO entered Kosovo & Metohija? Guess what no independence in fact a resolution confirmimg Serbian Territorial integrity.

Hopefully, when the talks finally get going in February/March following on from the Ahtisarri "proposal" a win-win solution will be found that will ensure a better future for all the peoples of Serbia. Maybe finally the penny will drop that all peoples have to work together to make their country better for all the peoples of Serbia.

Lets see what the results this recent round of lobbying by the ethnic Albanians actually will produce in 2007 seeing as there is now acceptance that 2006 will not be independence.

I for one positive and look forward to the real talks in 2007 when UN Secretary Ban Ki-Moon will add a new perspective on "negotiated" talks.

At least the Albanians know how to lobby effectively. All Serbs did in terms of lobbying was to pay millions to Venable LLP, to have them run a few despicable ads in some 3rd rate radio stations claiming that Kosovar Albanians were Al-Qaeda recruits. Needless to say the campaign failed miserably and it brought even more disgust on the American Senate's view of the Serbian government.
