No one seems to take into account that the commander has well explained what he has done to exercise a good enviroment there, second Presevo is very corrupted with drugs pushing in from Kosovo and upwards from there, Think it was just last week or so they found 20 KILOS of heroin in Presevo, Donia just because albanians live there gives them no right to take the land THAT goes with Kosovo. Jham said it "if you don't like it then move" The army has a presence there why? because whats going on in Kosovo and because of widespread corruption in the regionas well has to stop illegal movement into territory from the current due to the current situation in Kosovo. That said the people there shouldn't be mistreated of course.

Matthew, your idea simply doesn't work. Kosovo should stay on its own, and Presevo Valley should remain in Serbia, granting the Albanians all the rights the Serbs will have in Kosovo. That's the simple and fair solution. Presevo cannot join Albania, since Albania is far away from it, neither Kosovo will do.
As for trading land in Kosovo and Serbia, can you explain me what about Bosnia and Macedonia then? That will lead to new hermetical borders, new hatred among the displaced population (there are Serbs in Presevo Valley also) and the creation of ethnic states in the Balcan. We don't need new borders and monoethnical states, with eventual population exchange. We have been through it. IT'S OVER! It's much more practical for Serbia and Kosovo to agree, as neighbours, about each other interests in both countries, keep good relations and open borders, like the countries in Western Europe. So the Serbs will have their interests safeguarded in the independent Kosovo and this will make of them good neighbours forever. It's so easy! Just a bit of realism and good will from both sides!

mike what you are saying is true and very common sense.
The only thing is if serbia tries to partition kosovo unilateraly, preshevo may do the same.

Oppressing innocent civilians is NEVER acceptable. That being said, this is definitely not a repeat of the kind of treatment that led to the problems in Kosovo.

Doni, would you support allowing Presevo to join Albania in exchange for partitioning Kosovo?

Allowing Serbia to retain an area called Kosovo containing the most important historical and religious important areas, could go very far in winning the support of the more moderate members of the Serbian community.

This could be a very real and compromising solution.

Albanians should get Presevo and large parts of Kosovo, and Serbs would be able to retain enough to maintain our attachment to region. Serbs are rather a stubborn lot, better to give them something to call Kosovo then to worry about the area for another 500 years.

OK Doni, I'll answer your questions. Though I may not be Serb, I am far more sympathetic towards them currently than I am towards Albanians. First, if this situation as reported is indeed true, if Serb police are harrassing Albanians, then it clearly needs to stop. Too long have ethnic tensions caused instability and distrust amoung groups in the Balkans. Second, a constructive approach to the situation would be to staff the police with both Serbs and Albanians as a sign of mutual cooperation. The Serb constitution declared all minorities in Serbia to have equal protection and rights. This could be a great example to show the world that Serbs are not the crazy maniacs everyone seems to believe. Third, if Vojvodina is so well integrated and economically advanced, why can't that provide a model for Presevo? Fourth, just like Kosovo Serbs are going to have to learn to work with K-Albanians, so too should P-Albanians learn to work with Serbs. Ethnic apartheid has blackened this region for far too long, and whether it's in Kosovo or Presevo, whether it's being perpetrated by Serbs, Albanians, or others, it's collectively wrong and should be condemned.

Sir, i believe if you are living in presevo i think that is serbia and not kosovo. If you are an albanian Doni why pull Kosovo into the problem you cause for yourself in Serbia. If you don't like the rules of the country you live in then i suggest you move to Kosovo so you can be with you brothers who have struggle for freedom and join them in their cause unless you don't want to assist and just live happily in Serbia.

Doni, with all the respect towards you: don't talk nonsense
Preshevo valley is an integral part of Serbia therefore for the people (Albanians) who live there it's not about being or not part of Serbia. As for the brutal treatment of Gendarmerie on the citizens, that is a completely different story and of course I don't approve it. But please don't mix "frogs and grandmothers".
regards and no hard feelings
