kgregovic, you are mistaken when you compare Kosovo with other Muslim regions. If Kosovo was such a place the US would not support it right from the beginning.

The Russian government is doing the right thing. They have recognized that if they want to do any business in Kosova in the future, they have to talk to Kosova's government. They have totally side-stepped Belgrade, because they know who rules Kosova now, and who will rule it in the future. It is funny that their Serbian friends don't have a clue yet. They are in for a suprise. Cheers!

It is interesting how AGIM CEKU is all of a sudden travelling to Russia to try to appease the Kremlin on it's policy towards the independance of Kosovo.

It's true, Russia does not really care about Kosovo other than culturally and for their slav brethren. However, PUTIN DOES care about seeing Kazakstan, Takistan, and other predominantly MUSLIM nations not take the lead from the Kosovo Albanians & set an international precedent of dismantling internationally recognized borders of Serbia proper.

AGIM Ceku would have already declared independance , but is holding off until the last possible moment in order to convince the Kremlin to sign on the dotted line.

As Kosovo goes, so goes China's own "break-away province" of Taiwan. That is how Beijing views the Kosovo question. China prays that Russia will cooperate, but it is prepared to veto Kosovo independence on its own if necessary.

Like I said in one of my previous posts, NO ONE SAYS NO TO MONEY!. After Kosovo is reckognized as an independent republic, even Serbian companies will partake in investments in the new country. When it comes to money, there are no borders or political alliegances. Some Serbs seem to beleive that Russia is stalling the process to help Belgrade. Russia is acting naughty so it can gain as much from Kosovo's independence in terms of its own interests as possible, and not because it gives a damn about Serbia. Once the Bush administration signals that they will let them into the WTO without much fuss, and other economic incentives of that kind, the Russians will gladly come along. After all, where was Russia when NATO bombed Serbia in 1999? It stood by and said nothing, because it didn't really care...it was outside of its national interests. Anyone who thinks Vladimir Putin will destroy his relationship with the Americans and the EU over a tiny piece of land like Kosovo, has to be nuts. It's all a political play so that everyone ends up happy. Everyone but Serbia that is...after all they don't really deserve any happiness from the Kosovo process for what they attempted to do in 1999.

PM Ceku is being primed as the first leader of an Independent UN sanctioned Kosovo. The writing is now on the wall. Time for Kostunica to throw in his towel and accept this reality. Serb people are ready for a fresh start and new leaders. Leaders who won't harp on old losses and focus the govt's energies on development in all civil spheres of the Serb nation.

This is Interesting.I am not sure anything will come out of this meeting, but goes to show that Russia only cares about her own interest. Russia will side with Serbia only if it is to her benefit.Perhaps a promise to RUSAL,Russia’s aluminum giant, that it will be given the contract to build Kosovo's next generation power plant will sweeten the pot for Russia. It's always the ECONOMY.
