Hey Avni,

Do you really think that Vojvodina will choose to become independent? Do you understand who holds the majority of political seats there? If you did, you'd understand that 'vojvodars' are bigger patriots than 'serbidars.'

Avni Gjoni

Vojvoda
What kind of reality is this, people?
Let me answer your question. It is the same reality that the Serbs made starting with Slovenia, and looks like it is going to end with Vojvodina.
Does that answer your question?

To Sidi and Victor
I say bring it on Mr Ahtissari. If Ahtissari permits Kosovo's independence which by this article he probably will, then it's gonna be East versus West all over again. This time though the independence euphoria is going to spread throughout little provinces all over Europe like wildfire and Putin is going to be the first in line to backfire at Mr Ahtissari's face of authority so to speak. I want to tell you the story of Europe beyond the most likely independence of Kosovo. Once upon in 2020 AD you had many small provinces just like Kosovo which became independent following Marti Ahtissaari's KOSOVO PRECEDENT.
In Britain, Scotland, Wales and United Ireland became independent just like Kosovo. In Belgium, Flanders and Wallonia. In Italy, South Tyrol. In Spain, Basque, Catalonia and Andalusia. In the Mediterrenean, the French and Italian islands of Corsica and Sardinia. In Bosnia, Republika Srpska. In Moldova, Trans-Dniester. In Turkey, Kurdistan. In Georgia, South Ossetia and Abkhazia. In Cyprus, Northern(Turkish)Cyprus. And finally in Russia, Chechnya and the Caucasus province of Nagorny-Karabakh.And the newly independent states lived happily ever after thanks to Mr Ahtissari and his good, loyal friends in Pristina.

From now on, Kosovo is EU's problem. Serbia would better solve the problems of hundreds of thousands of refugees who were expelled from their homelands.

Croatia shall probably enter the EU by around 2010 and others(Serbia, Montenegro, Kosovo, Albania, Macedonia) will be accepted by 2013, that is, of course, if EU still exists by then.

VB

pre 17 godina

If Kosovo gains independence why not Hungarians in Romania, Basque in Spain, Corsicans in France, Northern Ireland joining the Republic of Ireland, independent Scotland and so on. Quite a mess no?

Well said Ivo.

Victor,

"It will be a sign that the world is losing patience with the Serbs for not having handed Mladic to The Hague!"

Since when does a country get its territory taken away at the snap of a finger because certain powers are growing 'impatient' with Serbia? What kind of reality is this people? Serbs should really be wondering wether they are for New World Order and against. No country on this Earth can take away my heart and soul from Kosovo.

I believe the US Ambasador is right! The delay is the last opportunity for Kostunica, Tadic and Serbian voters to join the western democracies.

Nothing will change US position! Maybe Pat Robertson and Jerry Fallwell can help cleric Artemije in changing the public opinion in the states.

Good luck with the majority of democrats in both houses!

Kosovo will be independent on January, and there is very little Serbian election tricks can do to change that outcome!

Have we not heard the same only a few months ago when we were told proposal will be issued in Oct/Nov - yet the deadline has indeed been extended! Wisner is losing credibility himself and if the decision does not come in January then I am certain that the message will be very very clear to all Albanians in Serbia (including Kosovo & Metohija). I will reiterate the best way forward for all in Serbia is to work together for a better future. If the Albanians truly wish for a future that is prosperous and part of an integrated EU why do they need to create artificial borders and a quasi state? Before the postponement WIsner said it is in no-ones interets and was adamant that the talks would be concluded this month! Thus far all that has been said on the postponement by Ahtisarri is that he will publish some findsings after the elections due on the 21st January. This does not mean independence will be granted and Wisner is just one representative of a 6 member goup in partnership with the UN. Equally in the new year there will be a new Secretary General as well as a new US ambassador to the UN so certain changes in the talks on Kosovo and Metohija are just around the corner. Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon sees himself as a "harmoniser, balancer, mediator" and he has talked much of reforming the UN "how the organisation must promise less and deliver more" - anyone out there starting to realise that the reality might just be more then you have been promised! I think the message in 2007 will be quite clear to all those who do not understand what "negotiation talks" are all about - look it up in your dictionary and underrstand that the talks are only just about to start!

Vlasta,

pre 17 godina

A wishful hope Victor! I believe Albanians have lost their rights for independence. Albanians have done worse in the last 7 years. They have evicted 200000 Serbs from their homes and land. All the Albanians who were evicted by Slobo are back. Have any Serbs come back to Metohija since then?

Boris

pre 17 godina

I hate to agree with Sidi, but this is nothing but a trick by the West. And I would suggest my Serbian brothers not to celebrate yet.

If the prososal had been autonomy within the frameworks of Serbia, there wouldn't be needed any delay. Proposal in favor of Serbia actually would help the democratic forces of Serbia.

So, I still believe Serbian negociating team should try to get the best deal for our Serbian brothers and Sisters in Kosovo.

Or go for redrawing of the borders. Serbian cities and North Mitrovica join Serbia and all Albanian cities including the few from south South Serbia join Kosovo.

This is the only outcome that has winners on both sides!

Ethnic Albanians lost rights to govern Kosovo long before the events of 1999. That's why it will be run by the EU.

I love your arrogant approach to politics. What makes you qualified to make such assessments? I think that you 'don't get it.' You are ignoring a number of key points in this conflict, which makes your statements highly hypocritical.

Victor

'' tell them that you think they have lost their right to their land because of what a man did in Bosnia,'' I've never said that. "He added that the status decision will be in line with what the Kosovo majority expects."

That just says it all doesn't it? With that you can't say that Kosovo is a unique situation. What the majority wants, the majority gets. Also, how does that statement go with resolution 1224, doesn't it talk about Serbian territorial integrity etc etc

Swede

Victor

I reccomend you go to Kosovo, and tell what you just did again but to the face of the serbs that live there.

Im sure they are more than happy to express their view on the matter to you.

Be sure to tell them that you think they have lost their right to their land because of what a man did in Bosnia, im sure they see the logic in that.

You will also rent out your flat to the one hundred thousand new serb refugees right? No?

How about to the one hundred thousand that already exist in Serbia? Not that either?

Ah im sorry, i mistook you for a man that actually sees a serb as a human and not an animal that one punishes to show a "sign" how the serbian goverment should behave.

I recalled that since early this year, the US and UK had been insisting, in fact boasting, that a solution MUST be approved by end 2006. They have now been forced to retract.

If this report is accurate, then Ahtisaari will propose a solution in January. And it is not going to be an imposition but merely a proposal for the Security Council's further consideration.

Meantime the US is desperate that no violence erupt in Kosovo from disappointed Albanians, hence this hasty interview by Wisner.

Victor

Serbia has lost all rights about Kosovo after what happened in 1999. Kosovo, and its albanian majority deserves the right to govern itself. I hope that Kosovo achieves its independance in January, It will be a sign that the world is losing patience with the Serbs for not having handed Mladic to The Hague!
