we must wait, not fight and cause problems for all. just because there is a delay that not the license to go and kill serbs or albaninas because some person or persons pays you fools gold. patience is the best direction, another 2004 riot will not solve anything and it will be frowned upon.

Max, my friend, it is the Serbs who are in checkmate, not the Albanians. The Albanians can easily wait another few months for the elections to take place in Serbia. After all, the Radicals will probably win in Serbia this January, making the decision very easy for the UN to declare Kosova independent. If a more democratic party wins then they should have no objection for Kosova to get independence.

Like the old saying goes, give some one enough rope, and they will hang themselves. I am now convinced, that Kosovo will NEVER be an independent albaniac state. The EU, UN, NATO has cleared their eyes. Only the professional, job keeping diplomats of the 90's don't want to admit it yet.

Max,

I was asking if new havoc in Kosovo is positive for the Serbs. As for the delay, it's clear that it's due to the election game in Serbia. If you call that second thoughts, than OK.

Ofcourse the delay is a VERY BAD outcome for the albanians. The albanians demanded, demanded and demanded, and the world is basically getting fed up with this. The fact that the process has been delayed is an obvious sign that your 'friends' are having second thoughts. They certainly won't admit to this because they supported you and you have put them in a very embarrasing situation, and it appears they are looking for a way out. What happened in 2004 was nothing new, the albanians behaved like this for years, before anyone even heard of Kosovo. No doubt im afraid to say, they will definately repeat this kind of violence if their 'demands' are not met.

Max,

are you suggesting Albanians are suspected criminals put in the room by a Serb cop? That was before 1999, my friend. Instead of all that long hot air, appart from the history of Albanian-Serb relations in Kosovo since 1913 leading to 1998-1999, which you really do not master, instead of praising that great Serb tactic (which is not Serb tactic at all), can you explain what you're expecting to happen, if the solution is to be delayed for a longer period (which is not going to be the case)? Are you pretty sure another March 2004, as it seems you're longing for in your comment, would be positive for Serbs? Apart from dreams and sympathy, one should be clear to you: Serbia cannot rule Kosovo, it has neither the capacities nor the will to cope with it. That makes the outcome. It's not like Russia and Chechnya, or China and Taiwan, that's the reality. Hence there is only one solution for Kosovo, being its ethincal partition excluded from the begining.
Hope you understand

Delaying the proposal because the west did not want to enrage the Serbs into voting for ultranationalist parties is a sign that the contents of this proposal is obviously negative news to the Serbian constitution that proclaims some idiotic 'governorship' over the Albanian people in Kosova. Thanks, but Kosova Albanians have already voted in their own constitution.

Finally some sensibility has been restored.

The albanians have so far relied on mere emotional arguments, nothing more. They have also tried to win over public support by using anti-Serb sentiments, which is still alive within some western media sources.

Phrases like "Serbia lost the right to Kosovo", and "Milosevic lost Kosovo" mean ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. These are just empty words, hot air. If the albanians had any real argument for independance, im sure they would have used it by now. But they fall back on the usual "do you expect 2 million albanians to live under the rule 100,000 Serbs" etc etc . . This is not a legal or argument and the world knows it

This delay will definately work towards the Serbs favour. The albanians are now stating that they will unitaleraly declare independance, this will only weaken their cause and isolate their 'government'. They are getting nervous and are trying to blackmail europe by stating that violence is inevitable is they are not given independance. Again, this will obviously work against them.

This is great tactic used by the Serbs, like the old cop trick. Put a suspect in a room and make him wait, and wait and wait. Ultimately his nerves will give in and he will admit to everything.

The fact that the albanians now have to wait till next year, after thinking they were a shoe in, will only cause havoc amongst their ranks and general public. Their true face will be exposed, just as it was in 2004. This time, they won't have the media and western governments on their side. It will be a whole new ball of wax!

Unfortunately for the albanians, it is 'not in the bag' as first thought. Seems to me the cats out of the bag

This is an irony really. I don't understand why the Contact Group postponed the declaration of Ahtisari's document! Whoever wins the serbian elections, I think that finaly Kosovo will be independent. Because, serbs lost Kosovo since 1999.

Thanks to Russia Serbia may just have a chance to actually keep Kosovo, but the much impatient ethnic Albanians accept the delay with much suspicion and hotheadedness, I'm not surprised as this may be the first sign of Russian diplomacy actually gaining momentum in defying pro-American foreign policy. As long as there is a Russia there will be a Serbia, you can embrace it or deny it, I don't really care, but it suits me

Recent deal to let Russia join the WTO is the message many Serbs failed to recognize. That Russia has been brought on board the Kosova Independence speeding bullet train. Excellent mentors, those democratic Americans.

Wouldn't you lose your patience if you had to be in status quo for more than 7 years? Furthermore the Contact Group promised a proposal by 2006. What we should be talking about is how the Serbian government is avoiding reality and trying to delay its problems (Kosovo), rather than facing them.
The Radical Party actually wants Serbia to lose Kosovo so it can conveniently come to power. No wonder they pushed for the elections to be held after 2006, in hope that Kosovo would be independent by then.
Serb politicians know that they have lost Kosovo; now they're only fighting for their political career. Confessing to a Kosovo loss means political disaster for them.

Serbia I am sorry for you. I am sorry for your useless attempts to keep Kosovo by postponing the status decision. I am sorry because you cannot change the inevitable. The only thing you are doing is standing in the way of progress and development of Kosovo and everyone who lives there.
Your goal is clear, is to keep Kosovo in this Status Quo as much as is possible, so that they remain undeveloped. It is not even to improve the life of serbs who live there.
Reallity is that Kosovo is gone, but incompetent nationalists want to keep it as much underdeveloped as possible, so that they can win votes, by telling people their life is better by comparing with Kosovo, because they cannot offer any better opportunities to their people and try to compare with EU or US.
If Kosovo will be better after independence, this means the end for those incompetent politicans and their passive backward policies. People will see, they will compare, and they will judge. They made a constitution but the didnt compare it with EU, but instead they choose to compare it with Kosovo, which it make it look good enough, but not enough with EU. We cannot compare ourself with the past, because of course we are better in many ways. Better compare with the future, the unknown, and offer new solution, and change. Things have to be done differently from the way past generation did, this shows that we are independent on our own, and make our own decisions.
In this present situation the only escape from our past is joining EU and the removal of borders once and forever. We have know more and traveled more around the world, than we have traveled to our neigbour countries and learn about each other more. We are more friendly to the world than our neighbors.
Shame on us.

Does anyone not recognize the irony of these statements? Is there any question that this is blackamil under threat of violence? Is there any greater evidence that this proposed statelet is dysfunctional?

Albanians are starting to lose their patience. New violence ahead?
If Kosovo doesn't get its independence all the EUROPEAN countries dealing with breakaway regions will refer to Kosovo as an anti-precedent in order to keep their territorial integrity.
Similar problems require similar solution.
