Dear BalkanUpdate,
as an Italian I feel embarrassed for the Italian Government's foreign policy (read the good comment sent by Andrea Baucero).
And after all, dear BalkanUpdate, do not put your trust on the Belgrade Bomber (remember 1999) Massimo D'Alema.

Incidentally, Italy will be on the Security Council for the next two years (starting in January). After all, they do have some influence. The comment about Italy selling missiles to Lebanon is interesting. It’s actually good for Middle East peace (believe it or not). Lebanon needs to be able to protect its air space just like any other country in the world. And by the way, there is nothing good to be said about Berlusconi.

I doubt that Italy has that much clout. It is not even on the UN Security Council which must approve whatever solution that is proposed for Kosovo.

Dear BalkanUpdate, it would be good for Lebanon to defend its airspace if Lebanon was like any other country. But this isn't true, it's a country in which a significant part of the territory is in the hands of a private militia armed to the teeth, that now will count on Italian missiles as well. If Lebanon wants to defend itself, it must do so against Syria too, by not allowing it to send arms to Hezbollah. As for Berlusconi, at least we were on the right side of the iron curtain then, now we're more in line with such "brave leaders" as Ahmadinejad, Ugo Chavez, Bashar Assad, Robert Mugabe and Alexander Lukashenko. I prefer to be friends with the USA than with the above dictators.

Hi BalkanUpdate
Sorry, I guess I was not very clear in my earlier post. There are 15 members on the Security Council, but only the 5 permanent members have any real power because of the veto they wield. Italy is not among them.

I'm deeply ashamed of my country, since the left won the elections Italy has sent troops in Lebanon to defend Hezbollah fighters, it's selling first rate surface-to-air rocktes to Lebanon to shoot down Israeli planes in the next war, and now it's willing to accept in the EU a country that hides and protects war criminals. The only consolation is that I voted for Berlusconi.
