"Belgrade to Ahtisaari: Best step down" isn't that what Belgrade told Søren Jessen-Petersen and other UN administrators too. When I read things like this and the comments written by Serbians here it makes me happy to know the that us, Albanians, are very close to Independece because we got no competition. They still think they got a chance to keep Kosovo.
In 1989, Serbia striped Kosovo of its autonomy and now they want to give us it back, supposely a "broader autonomy", are you kidding me? I guess it turned out to work in favour of Albanians, in other words they striped Serbia of Kosovo.
Thanks to your poleticans and their comments Kosovo is every day closser to its independece.
I should quote president Bill Clinton when he made the speech after the bombing of Nato to the American Nation
"I want to say a few words to the Serbian people tonight. I know that you too have suffered in Mr. Milosevic's war. You should know that your leaders could have kept Kosovo as a part of your country without driving a single Kosovar family from its home, without killing a single adult or child, without inviting a single NATO bomb to fall on your country.

You endured 79 days of bombing, not to keep Kosovo a province of Serbia, but simply because Mr. Milosevic was determined to eliminate Kosovar Albanians from Kosovo, dead or alive.

As long as he remains in power, as long as your nation is ruled by an indicted war criminal, we will provide no support for the reconstruction of Serbia. But we are ready to provide humanitarian aid, and to help to build a better future for Serbia too, when its government represents tolerance and freedom, not repression and terror. "

Thank you for responding to my comment! I am not going to defend my comment nor will I protest against incomprehensible hate that a small number of Serbian nationals demonstrate against Albanians on this site. I worked for an International Organization in Ballkans during the war years, and I am sure that a great number of Serbs are good peace loving people. My comments are in no way directed towards Serbian population, rather than Governments which have impoverished their nation with their battle hungry adventures, and held Kosovo Albanians hostage for so long.
I agree with Ahtisari, heard most of his comments, and find it incredible that Serbian political elite would find something bias in them. Autonomy, for Kosovo wouldn't have been such a bad thing if Serbian Government had shown some sympathy and apologised for the horrendous atrocities commited in the land they considered as "Holy." But with current politics and some of your hateful comments, how do you expect Albanians to go back to something they have fought against the entire 20 century. Comment writers like some here and many at "Novosti" are alianating Albanians to an extent that they would rather die , then ever live with you together. I am sure that Mr. Ahtisari is aware of that. Personally, I believe that he may not propose indipendence because he loves Albanians, but because of the historic pattern that Serbia has evolutionized in Ballkans throughout the medieval and modern centuries. You can convince an ignorant Serb or Albanian with those one sided mythological comments, but certainly not a scholar like Mr. Ahtisari. I am fully aware that he knows that Serbian pre-history of 7Th century is non-existent in the Ballkans. He is certainly aware of all the claims of a Godly given land to Serbs are nothing more than pretext to their ambitions for further expansion. He may also be aware of atrocities of Rankovich, and thousands of Kosovo Albanians that were forcible pushed to emigrate to Turky. He is probably more aware than Serbian population of not long ago events of ethnic cleansing. And of course he understands of the suffering of 10 % Serbian population in Kosovo, and surely will propose a solution that will benefit Albanian majority and Serbian minority, but certainly not Serbia itself.

And finally, to "Svoj Gazda."
Your recent comments of Albanians multiplying too fast are pure ignorance. It is estimated that Ilyrian population before slavic invasion of 7th century was just the same as it is today. I would assume that you have multiplied al lot more than those poor Albanians. I agree however, that in the last 5 years have swelled couple of hundred thousands in Kosovo, Because Albanians from Southern Serbia are fleeing there in fear , and of course, Serbian nationalists haven't had the chance to ethnically cleanse them since Nato took over.

Ahtisaari is very admirable as a person. One man, singlehandedly making Serbia pay for all the evils it has cast upon its neighbors. Now Serbs will think twice before invading other countries like Croatia, Bosnia, Slovenia, Kosovo. I am glad that our leaders here in the West stand up to bloody tyrannical regimes like the Taliban, Hussein, & Milosevic. War mongerers should be punished. You rock Ahtisaari!

i am now in my country but still sometimes monitor kosovo news. i was once in a tour of duty in kosovo as a peacekeeper. in my personal observation then is that the albanian people seems to be more arrogant than the serbians. i resided in a serbian area and people were too polite and respectful. when i go to work and markets, some albanian people are disrespectful and teasing you. this you can not see in serbian areas. i think independence is too early to grant. politicians also were fighting among themselves for power, and many properties were chaotic in ownership.

As long as you call 2 mil. people separatists and leaders that they have democratically elected, (see: www.osce.org/kosovo) I must admit my friends, you're back in S.M era! :)

regards from a separatist,

youre way out of democracy,
you may learn from: Slovenians, Croats, us and in the end Montenegrians (Not Bosnia, cause wherever you serbs take place in decision making, things go bad, very interesting!)

Well Maria, Ahtisaari can hardly be seen as acting in an objective manner. Besides, granting the separatists independence would violate international law. If that is not outrageous enough, Ahtisaari then makes a comment on how such a decision ‘would not set a precedent’. How contemptible is that? One law for all, and another for the Serbs! Please keep in mind Maria that Ahtisaari should be assisting in negotiations, not an ambush.

To Maria: First off he has MUCH to explain for, such as his statment about serbs and his lack of explenation for his support for albanian arguments (which are ridiculous!!) and shows no professional desision making, so why should Serbia trust someone about to take away 15% of a country's rightful terriory that has well been in it's possenstion for over 600 years, and give it to some group of people stressing all they want is their own country which again is ridiculous! because they already have one.

Normally Maria, when politicians don't behave properly in thier positions, show bias which effects individuals lives or commit wrongs, they resign. It is not just Serbs, it is the way politics work.

What are you saying? That when things don't go well for Albanians, they just sit there and take it? I have never seen a bigger group of campainers in my life.
