Its 400,000 Ukrainians plus 100,000 NATO mercenaries are dead and 1 million are wounded which ranges from severe injuries with loss of limbs etc to superficial wounds.
This counter offensive you talk about has gone nowhere. The Russian have three lines of defence and they are call them the Surovikin lines and in front of the first line is a 10 to 15 kilometre no man’s zone. The Ukrainians have not managed to cross the zone let alone the first line of defence. The Russians are happy for Ukraine to throw troops at these lines since it minimises Russian casualties. Yes, Russians are being killed but nowhere near the casualties suffered by Ukraine.
It's been months now since that counter offensive started. They should be in Mariupol by now. Give it some thought.
Why has Russia gone as it has? The current events in the Middle East gives us a hint. Look at Israel and its bombing everything under the sun and now Israel has lost any sympathy from other countries except the US, and its vassals states, and they are seen as a war criminal and rogue state protected by the US. Meanwhile the US is no longer seen as a credible mediator in anything and the prestige it once had is lost because in Ukraine’s case, they want the whole world to sanction Russia, but openly backing Israel and saying nothing about the plight of Palestinians. This loss is incalculable. That’s why Russia was very careful in what it did in Ukraine.
