NATO is incapable of going to war and that the reality. It does not have the man power to do it! The US has about 100,000 in Europe and of those only 30,000 are front line troops fully equipped, and a fair number are National Guard. Poland has called up 200,000 but these would only be lightly armed. I could go on and on. to send any of these forces to Ukraine would be to send them to the meat grinder and certain death. Even if Poland was stupid enough, and greed can make people stupid enough, and they went into western Ukraine, they would do it on their own. They cannot rely on Article 5.
Ukraine can join the little green men society if they like but even joining NATO now would not save it from defeat.
