Tony, perhaps Djokovic should have got vaccinated, but many sports professionals have not had the jab and probably never will.
Two things here;
1. There is the element of choice of what you inject yourself with. Nobody can tell what reactions we will have in 2, 3, 5 or 10 years. So I understand pro athletes not wanting to take a risk.
2. Being vaccinated only protects the individual to some extent. You can still get the virus and be ill even though you are vaccinated. You can also spread the virus if vaccinated.

Bearing the above in mind I can only conclude that Australian officials played politics with Djokovic.
Novak played by their rules. He was given a medical exemption by Victoria State and Tennis Australia. But the media got hold of it and raised a storm, a hate campaign against Novak. At that point officials stabbed Djokovic in the back (elections in may).
Dont forget that there were other players and officials/coaches who got in to Australia with the same med. exemption.
Novak was a scapegoat and shame on Australia. Its all politics by the guttless Australian government.

Djokovic's treatment in Australia was appalling, but he was ill-advised not to get vaccinated. Had he done so, he would have won the Australian Open and now be the undisputed GOAT. Until he overtakes Nadal in the Grand Slam count, this claim will always be disputed, especially outside of Serbia.
