Problem with EU enlargement is very much like the 1970s hit song performed by the Swedish group ABBA titled Money, Money, Money.
The EU should never have taken on Romania, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Croatia or Baltic countries until they had met the criteria for entry. Brussels is now paying the hefty price for having a bigger eyes than stomach.
While still not recovered from the GFC then the pandemic hit and pushed the EU several decades backwards.
