I am not overlooking anything. Yes, the Soviet Union went in and left defeated, but it did not give rise to Islamic terrorism mate. Where did you pull that one out off? Your backside.
The US armed and trained the Mujahadeen in Afghanistan to fight the Soviets. When the Soviets left these war lords fought amongst themselves for power. This created havoc for US plans to pipe oil and gas from the Caspian through Afghanistan and Pakistan thus by-passing Russian territory.
The CIA gave money to Pakistan to organise a group that would bring Afghanistan under control and that group is called the Taliban. These people were all drawn from Madrasas (Islamic schools). It was the US of A that paid for the Taliban not the Chinese, Soviets or Russians. Just prior to the Iraqi invasion French TV were showing CIA officers visiting Osama Bin laden in a hospital in the middle east.
When the Taliban did not follow the script, the US went in to “democratise” the country and 20 years later runs away with its tail between it legs.
Now what was that about China and Russia could not wait to recognize the Taliban. Well just the other day Biden said they can work with the Taliban. So, what’s you point?

Ataman: The U.S. has one of the largest natural gas reserves in the world. Why would the U.S. make a deal with Turkmenistan for their gas when America has more gas than it knows what to do with. Your argument does not hold water (or in this case, gas).

sj: It appears that when you have no argument, you come up with some bizarre excuse. For instance, for the case in question, you assume that the dead journalist’s family was also killed because they did something “stupid”, when in fact, you are purely speculating.

There is one thing I dont understand of the Afghanis who are fleeing like they saw shejtan in person. The Talibs declared a general amnisty, of course Afghanistan was occupied by the alliance and for Talibs, the afghanis who worked with the occupier are considered collaborators of the occupying force. Why so much panic when you didn't do anything wrong against your country? Why not having a lit bit of dignity and say "I've done nothing wrong and I will not leave. If you want kill me but you are killing an honest man"? I am thinking where might have ended up those ancient ancient albanians who fought for Alexander the Great and remained in Afghanistan for centuries...

Yes our Ataman yes, the Eastern Europe, Hungary, USSR, Yugoslavia also, sent thousands of engineers to the Asian countries, all of them, Iraq and Afghanistan, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, everywhere, to help those countries build their nations. It was a long and difficult nation building process. Still Deng Xiahoping was right regarding the Soviets intervention upon invitation of the legitimate government of Afghanistan. There is a moment when you realize that all is lost and admit failure. What is the legacy left of all the efforts of your honorable wife father and thousands of engineers who went to work in those difficult countries? Nothing more than the legacy left in Albania when hundreds of yugoslav and then soviet engineers worked to develop a backward country. Its still backward but it is pro american because americans bombed the serbs. Return to a tribal tradition thats all I can say. But of course something is safe to say, when the former communists stepped in they civilized, where the West steps in, extremism and poverty flourishes.

If you mean the US has the technology such as nuclear weapons then yes they do. Other than that everything the US has thrown at the Taliban for the last 20 years has not worked.
While I don't know what occurred to cause the death and injury of the family members of the journalist, my guess is more often than not they did something stupid that led to the incident.

Furthermore, it will put other Gestapo like regimes on notice that vermin will not be allowed to exist.

Notice, that the most bizarre and antihuman regime on this planet is being run by the out-of-wedlock son of Saparmurat Niyazov, the hardline communist ruler of Turkmenistan.

Compared with this regime Kim Jong Un or Enver Hoxha look like front-line champions of democracy and human rights.

You do not hear about Turkemnistan because it made a deal with USA regarding it's gas resources. The population is under most brutal suppression anyone had to endure since WW-II.

But they are largely (economic) allies of USA. The population is in poverty, but everywhere are golden statues of the current ruler and his daddy. The same time the money is not worth even the value of North Korean Won. Nice... Why no one objects these Communists who are nothing, but neo-Nazis?

I by chance saw some pictures from Afghanistan when they were under the Soviets influence. Same goes for Uzbekistan, Tajikistan
(Skenderbeu 1444, 20 August 2021 20:12)

- Compare Enver Hoxha with the recent rulers of Turkmenistan (Turkmenbashi and now his illegit son), you would consider E.H. a champion of democracy and human rights.

- In 70-s the (late) father of my wife used to travel to Afghanistan, he was an engineer working for a Hungarian import-export company. He wasn't in the Party, but the Party did need him because he was a good negotiator and a good engineer. He made a lot of slides during his travels (also to Iraq).

There was absolutely no sign of insanity and bigotry, these placed looked quite advanced. You can see women in short skirts, engineering projects everywhere. Sure, it was not a paradise and (West) Germany looked far more advanced. After these 45-50 years America brought there nothing, but destruction and most bigot form of religion. The terrorism is the icing on that. What a shameful "job".

The only "technology" that worked so far with these countries was the emancipation that only the USSR delivered. I by chance saw some pictures from Afganistan when they were under the Soviets influence. Same goes for Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and all the former Soviet republics of the Caucas. You don't expel religious extremism and violence with bombs and arms. Unjust bombing just make people more fondamentalist. You emancipate these backward societes but it takes a lot of patience and love for humanity.

The US has the technology to eliminate the Taliban. When a dog becomes rabid there is only one solution. The US will truly become a hero in the eyes of the civilized world if they destroy this plague. Furthermore, it will put other Gestapo like regimes on notice that vermin will not be allowed to exist. Notice that both China and Russia could not wait to recognize the Taliban, is anyone surprised.
