The entire border opening / closing became a political game. The best example is the current game between France and UK.
Finally, the politicians have a tool to prevent international travels in the time the visas are abolished. I can't stop thinking, they crave for that kind of control, sometimes at all costs.
U.S. entry-exit policy is also a good example of tit-for-tat and has nothing to do with reflecting the COVID situation. Which is the worst in the U.S. by the way.
