The answer: Jacob Amman. The namesake of the Old Order Amish in North America.

Sorry about the situation with the French. I am getting email notices from the US embassy in Belgrade. But I mostly ignore them because peasants don't have such worries -- about political rallies, violence after soccer matches, or Coronovirus.
(Make Serbia Great, 18 March 2020 22:03)

Thanks - I had to look up (Wiki) because the mennonite or similar movements weren't in my focus. He seem to be more connected to Swiss, than Alsatians.
But in medieval times the German dialects used to be much closer. Alsatian way of speaking is probably more "kind of" Swiss, than German, but I don't dare to say anything otherwise one side or the other will come an bite me.
I understand both sides quite well, even in their "Mundart", so I am neutral. But in general of all places in "old" Germania I like either Alsace or Thuringia+Saxonia (DDR) the most. NRW is probably the last one, B-W is so-so.

Today, if I would have choice, I would go to most backwards place in either Oberbayern or central RU and hide my @ss from any direct contact to the outside world for as long as possible. Having bad roads is definitely a benefit, so central RU wins.

Alsace has a blotch on its name because the government and other persons harassed a church leader in the late 17th and early 18th centuries. Do you know who that is?
(Make Serbia Great, 16 March 2020 19:18)

Honestly, no. I noticed, however, that all major Catholic churches have a Pravoslav corner with proper icons. I was delighted even that I am not a Pravoslav. And as far as Alsace I am perfectly in peace with locals. I think, it's almost a perfect place to live for a semi-retiree.

I speak German fluently and it is very useful here. Too bad, I was lazy to learn French as I was a kid. 1983 my wife was one of the two Hungarians who got a scholarship from Mr. Mitterand for her language skills and we spent something like a month around the Tours.

The old tradition remains - she now files not only my W-2 but also the French tax. And I am like a true Russian idiot next to her.

Ataman, Are you sorry you left the US, with its excellent health care.

It is very difficult to answer your question without being offensive, now you can read, why.
To be correct, today was the first day when Americans started to react (or over-react?) correctly. I was called multiple times by their consulate - finally, with people who know what is the situation on the ground and who are competent.

They should fire Mike Pompeo and all incompetent rednecks from where they are.
Since I work for a company in the States I can tell you, they have a huge problem there with people buying ammo.

Of course here not everything is great: people started to "collect" not only toilet paper, but gold-medal wine, beef tongue and in particular, coffee capsules made for French taste.

Two days ago was in MixMarkt on the other side of Rhine. It's a Russian grocery chain. Big issue with beef, sour cucumbers, red caviar and vodka. The best joke of the day was the "Российская Корона" vodka brand. I could not believe my eyes, they had it. And guess what... vodka was extremely popular, but not THAT brand. Why?

So one buys vodka, meat and cucumbers, the other buys wine, coffee capsules and beef tongue, the third buys firearms and ammo.

MSG, they introduced curfew today. Since I can't speak French, I got only part of the news. After I realized that things look pretty bad and I don't even understand completely, I decided to cal the U.S. embassy.

That was an embarrassing experience!

There is ABSOLUTELY no citizen service in Hungary. You call their number, the automate hangs up. And you know - that's the lucky part!

In France the otherwise friendly but completely clueless(!!!) lady will forward you to an employee of Department of State, who is in States. I started to realize it after she started to tell me completely different story what unofficially I was told by Belarus today (and later - officially - by Hungarians). She told me to run to the hospital ASAP. No information about France was given.

I hung up politely, called Hungarian embassy. They told me exactly what the guy from BY did:
- follow the order of the police or military
- fill out the necessary paperwork
- unless you have high fever firmly stay at home, don't even try to go to the hospital because they can't accommodate you, they are for people over 70 or for who has high fever.
- Not doing so you can get up to 3 years in prison.

Than, they sent me the paperwork by e-mail which I have to fill out and always carry with me.

What a shame the U.S. Department of State is. With that approach they will lose more people than in all the wars before - combined.

This is indeed the rule, but at the time it happened, Alsace was already a super-infected area, just a bit behind of Italy.

I think, I made a mistake - I should just go to the pharmacy and pay up-front without prescription. Damn, I was greedy.

That war will be won, but with much pain.
I do not want to bagatellize the bug, even in it's trivial form it is no fun.

The headache is difficult to stay with.
The constant dry caugh with minor pain in the chest is an extra dessert, dizziness is an icing on that cake.

What is bad is that the healing time is over 3 weeks and the symptoms won't appear early enough. I still say, the world-wide scare is a hoax and the governments did not react on-time.

In my case: why I was forced to sit four hours in reception room of the house doctor just to get a trivial prescription of Metformine & Co.?
