For the good of all Balkan people, avoid EU membership. Its not as good as you think and the benefits are small/nothing. The only country to really benefit is Germany because they control the euro, interest rates (to suit their own German economy), and on the whole what Germzny says all the others have to do.
(View from the uk, 3 February 2020 16:15)

I think it is more kind of Balkan-conspiracy, sorry.
I am directly affected and big time.

There are dozens of all kind of agreements about German-French cross-border relations and they (Germans, French) were unable to implement properly a single one.

On one side the border is completely run down, until now. No jobs, no good transportation. And Lord forbid, there would be meaningful transportation to the next village or across the Rhine river... if that place is on the "other" side of the border.

The solution: create a dozen or so "agreements" on a toilet paper.

Result: Germans speaking Schvabo dialect complain they need migrants to fill the jobs (hello, Peggy!) - but the same time Franko-Germans speaking "Alemanian" dialect don't have jobs because there is no transportation other, than on the paper.

I doubt that if they are impotent to that degree, they can control anything.

Ataman, yes you are right that a lot of EU money disappeared in a black hole in places like Rumania, Bulgaria, Hungary.
Since 2008 and the financial crisis we have seen many EU countries spiral into debt, Greece in particular. Money from the EU is not so readily available, and even less so now that we in the UK have left. And as I said before we were a huge donator to the EU purse.
Sorry, but the EU is no longer the be all and end all. And as we have seen (here in the UK) once you are in its very hard to get out.
Its like the Eagles song, Hotel California........you can check in any time but you can never leave......LOL.

The EU is good for Germany, Austria and a few others. But ask the Greeks, Croats, Rumanians, etc. These countries have seen their young, their future, disappear. Not a good thing.
(View from the uk, 2 February 2020 20:39)

Bulgaria, Romania and in particular, Hungary got billions to improve the infrastructure.
The respective governments stole most of it - but what was improved is far more, what was improved earlier. It's not good, but is better than what it was before.

Attaman......the European Commission conducted a huge poll in december 2018 in the 5 candidate countries about EU membership.
Albanian public showed the biggest desire for EU membership (approx 90%). In Serbia its less than 45%.
When asked if it was worth giving up Kosovo for EU membership, over 80% would not entertain the idea.
So, it very much appears that the majority of Serbian citizens do not wish EU membership.
EU membership is not a big enough carrot any more. And with us in UK leaving, the EU is even less of an attraction. That's because we were a major contributor to the EU purse. I also think when push comes to shove the Serbian public will say no thanks. More so when they see how Croatia has lost approx 20% of its population.

Borrell can take a flying leap. Serbia does not need to recognize itself. Kosovo is Serbia. Borrell go back into the EU hole of arrogance.

Ataman

Even when Serbia recognizes Kosovo, it will be almost impossible for Serbia to become an EU member because there still remain a number of unfulfilled conditions, the most important being to align itself with EU sanctions against Russia.
(Stanko, 1 February 2020 12:35)

Yes, sanctions... Do they work as designed? Who designed?
If not 1999 bombing with Camp Bondsteel as a result, Lattakia and Sevastopol would be either part of NATO or in the line to become part of NATO.

It was 1999 when the "West" lost Yugoslavia for at least 100 years if not more.

Like Serbs: they won a certain historic battle in early Summer of 1384 - just to appear as losers from August of the same year. Not because Serbs or Ottomans, but because Sighismund of Luxembourg after he invaded Serbia in August and widow-queen had to ally with Ottomans, who asked a price.

Same in 1999. NATO + USA won Kosovo with Camp Bondsteel, but lost Serbia with Russia in addition. It is a strategic and horrific loss.

Without 1999 the Russia would be a major NATO ally if not part of it.

Proof: after 9/11 Russians cooperated with U.S. at the highest level. That, too, was not utilized as it should be. Now we have a new cold war instead.

Appears that a big majority of Serbian public do not want EU membership, so what is your point?
(View from the uk, 31 January 2020 16:32)

They do, but mostly want one thing: live and work in the EU for better future and salary. Like anyone else in the area.

Not sure, whom you address here. You mention "Albanians" - I don't see for about a decade a single person here who would act as genuine Albanian. Except Skenderbeu 1444. And "Sken" (who according his words lives in the States and does not care about EU) is probably the last one you want to address.

The trolls are most likely either alter-egos of our "doot" guy with an idiotic blog (a Canadian Serb) or straight Kremlin boys of Putin.

I currently side with the last version: diligence + violence + underhanded methods (like hijacking real person identities) is far beyond "doot".

Stanko.......its more than unlikely that Serbia will recognise Kosovo.
So, the rest of your post is not relevant.
Why do people assume that Serbia will ever recognise its stolen lands as a country?? They have not recognised it after all these years, things are moving in Serbias favour, there is no chance Serbia will ever be attacked again, the majority of people in Serbia appear not to want to join the EU, etc.
So why will Serbia ever recognise Kosovo....??

Eu Consesions........what are you gobbing off...??
Can I remind you of the following....;
Serbia has got 17 UN members to revoke Kosovo recognition, and more to come. Its around 50/50 now.
Serbia has attracted 10s of billions in foreign investments in recent years. How much has Pristina achieved....????
Serbia is a full UN member, as well is Council of Europe, Unesco, Interpol, etc. What about Kosovo....??? Always makes me laugh when Albanians talk of mutual recognition (Kosovo and Serbia). Thats so funny......Serbia is recognised by everyone...lol. What about Kosovo...????
Appears that a big majority of Serbian public do not want EU membership, so what is your point?
Serbia has visa free travel across Europe....what about Kosovo..????
Seems to me you got it the wrong way around. Serbia is improving, but Kosovo is going nowhere/backwards.
Tell us again how Serbia is drifing......LOL....
What a dreamer you are.....

"Borrell is determined to make it happen and to expect that both parties will quickly fulfill their obligations."
Quickly?
Only obligations, so far, are from Brussels Agreement. Serbia fulfilled it, but Pristhina has yet to establish Association of Serbian Municipalities. I don't expect it to be that quickly, from what we were able to see so far.
Borrell is very optimistic. Let's see.
