Serbian presiden tells FT that frozen conflicts can "melt"

there is no frozen conflict on kosovo side. soon we will join albania and our problem is being solved. we will have our armed forces at the border with serbia and no more conflicts. serbs can look for conflicts elsewhere

The current situation with Albanians in fact is the thaw of the frozen conflict of 1918 when Serbs occupied a huge chunk of Albanian land south of Niš.

We are witnessing the situation reverting to its natural balance and the thaw will finish when the squatters return to their native habitat on the other side of the Carpathian Mountains.

So, in essence, Vučić is right but intentionally out of phase - and he knows he is.

Sreten, Serbia is not China or Taiwan, it's nowhere close any of them. Behind the Cyprus problem there are two NATO countries, again very different from Serbia & Kosovo. Another conflict means Albanians take at least Presheva & Sanxhak and Serbia gets a bit smaller, like Nokia.

Yes, that's what he's saying, without spelling it out. The West has put some faith in him, but they will not wait for him forever. Vucic has shown he can't be trusted in multiple occasions.

Serbia started oppression on Albanians in 1990 or maybe even earlier. While you read fairytales from the distance I was there in person. Serbia can never dispute the crime and terror that they did in all of these three countries.

That's why I insist on frequently refreshing the mind of people like Sreten, sj, Watcher, Roger 7, Peggy, ... about 1000 years of prison time given to the Serbs by ICTY for contribution to inhumanity.

It is not significant if the Serbs will ever mature to face their recent past critically but it is crucially important for the rest of the world to have learnt how to deal with them in the future.

Great idea - let's blame all the regional problems on frozen conflict. Our government is not incompetent, Pristina is not incompetent, Banja Luka or Sarajevo are not incompetent....It's all because of frozen conflicts that, apparently do exist only in this part of the world.

It just, isn't so.
Many places have frozen conflicts. Northern Cyprus is recognized only by Turkey, yet there is more stability in both part of Cyprus then in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Not really...China and Taiwan are in frozen conflict for a long time, and both have economic growth much higher then anyone in the Balkans.
Taiwan is recognized by only handful of countries, compared to Kosovo that is recognized by a hundred or so, yet, their standard of living cannot be compared.
But, nevermind all that, let's just blame it all on frozen conflicts!

First burning houses in all of former Yugoslavia were in Zadar and Sibenik (in Croatia). Those were Serbian homes.
First massacre in Bosnia was combined action of Muslims and Croats who entered peaceful village of Sijekovac on March 26th, 1992. They killed 60 Serbs civilians, including 17 children, some of them as young as 4. All hell broke after that.
After finnishing Bosnian war in late 1995 it was time for sponsors of wars in Yugoslavia, to open another front - in February, 1996.
But, don't trust me, read what British Parliamentary Comittee wrote about it. (or you, perhaps, think that UK is, and was pro-Serbian????
