The problem with Croatia is that it is perceived by the outside world, most of whom are largely ignorant of its dark history, as simply a pretty holiday destination. It's the scenery. Trust me, it isn't for the people, and it certainly isn't for the history. Turkey gets millions of tourists every year despite their human rights abuses and systematic denial of the Armenian Genocide.

Then again, tourism is Turkey is almost entirely limited to Istanbul and the western Anatolian coast. No one ever voluntarily travels to Konya.

Same for Croatia: the Dalmatian coast is beautiful. No one wastes their time in Slavonia, or worse, the interior of Dalmatia, which is populated by the worst gaggle of hicks and hillbillies imaginable.
