If the countries vote their leaders in, it's by definition a "democracy". Italy and Spain are democracies, but not typical of Western Europe. It is possible that in over 10 years many destitute countries change their governments or their policies from Western-friendly to Eastern-friendly, but the reverse is also true. Therefore having drops or gains of recognitions by third world countries is normal in such time spans because their diplomatic units are literally a joke. Regardless of these meaningless fluctuations, unless some big and relevant country recognizes or withdraws their recognition, no one will really care. Positives can come out of this though, like if a really poor country withdraws their recognition, the West might ask a nicer country to recognize just for counterbalance, like when Suriname withdrew but Barbados recognized. Barbados is a much more qualitative recognition than Suriname, so Kosovo still won.

This is a double edge sword. I as a Albanian do not see Kosova a functioning state.. I don't sit here and dream about something that is not true. Kosova as a state is a failed and bad idea. Why?? Because Kosova's history as far as Albanians go is intertwined with Albania from language based and everything else. So going back to the double edge sword comment.. Is that say Kosova loses a huge % recognition's the only viable option would be Kosova joining Albania. Why?? Because the civil war that would unfold between Albanians and Serbs for the second time would be catastrophic and U.S wont let that happen. Its really simple. Serbia has 2 options in my personal opinion. 1. Recognize Kosova as a state and move on.. 2. Keep the frozen conflict where its at and force the U.S hand to let Kosova join Albania witch over 80% of Albanians approve of it.
So witch ever way you turn it the chances of Kosova being under Serbia is not going to happen. So i guess Serbs have to make a tough decision.

It's far from over. Serbia does not need to have actual control over its southern province to fight for its territory diplomatically. A bombshell would be a European country revoking recognition. The countries that are today most likely to do so are Czechia and Poland where recognition was and still is widely unpopular among the general population and several political parties on the left and right.
Also, Orban's Hungary should revoke and I feel with enough convincing, they would. The big one would be Italy. The Lega political party have been huge Serbophiles since the 1990s when it was cool to hate Serbia. They can also be convinced...if Serbia has a solid diplomatic front.

A shocker would be something like the UK withdrawing their recognition, but not the eastern EU countries that failed to westernize enough since the fall of communism. They'd just be confirming what we all know already, that they really failed the western test.

Relevance, not sure where you live, but your pseudo democracy comment towards the Eastern Block countries is a bit misleading. If the countries vote their leaders in, it's by definition a "democracy". Italy and Spain are democracies, but not typical of Western Europe. The US is "the biggest democracy" supposedly; however, it is fast turning into a Socialist system - can we equate the US with the Eastern Block countries then? The US is going to hell in a hand basket, and I'm not sure how they will be able to sustain their democracy.
It is possible that in over 10 years many destitute countries change their governments or their policies from Western-friendly to Eastern-friendly, but the reverse is also true. Therefore having drops or gains of recognitions by third world countries is normal in such time spans because their diplomatic units are literally a joke. Regardless of these meaningless fluctuations, unless some big and relevant country recognizes or withdraws their recognition, no one will really care. Positives can come out of this though, like if a really poor country withdraws their recognition, the West might ask a nicer country to recognize just for counterbalance, like when Suriname withdrew but Barbados recognized. Barbados is a much more qualitative recognition than Suriname, so Kosovo still won.

There are various shades of democracy, and some of these East/South European countries use electoral systems that give too much power to their parties/leaders rather than having direct elections. The US has a good system because it’s interlocking and direct, meaning they have a Congress whose representatives get elected directly, not through closed party lists decided by the party. They also have phased elections, like midterms, that allow voters to change the balance of power halfway through a leader’s term if they don’t like them. Judicial branch can also challenge or delay authoritarian policies. In East/South Europe you have unicameral parliaments decided by closed lists, thus ensuring seats even for bad representatives, and because they have too many parties sometimes they have to make deals with really fringe parties to have a coalition that works. This makes democracies substantially weaker than the US version, which can self correct all the time.
