An Albania-Kosovo merger is extremely unlikely. Ground rules were laid with the Ahtasaari plan. While it was never implemented, Kosovo and Albanian are bound by the restrictions on a merger with another country. Stab the EU and the US in the back, and you will regret it.

The Serbian south looks like a decaying retirement village. I can imagine when the 60-80 years old Serbs - who are living there - become aggressive. It makes everybody smile.

Obviously an Albania-Kosovo merger would only happen with the blessing of the West. So it’s not about Albanians wanting and doing it, it’s about the West seeing it as necessary or not. If Serbia (Russia really) insists on keeping the situation frozen, it’s not unthinkable for the West to support an Albania-Kosovo merger. That would make it extremely difficult for the EU5 to maintain their no-recognition position, which would essentially solve the issue of Kosovo’s integration into EU. For now it’s not a priority, but when it becomes an issue, a merger may very well appear as a viable solution.

In a way yes - this is according to unsr 1244. But we don’t need that. We protect ourselves - you try any aggression then you see.

As reminder Kosovo was annexed into Serbia by force in 1913 in violation of then Serbian laws. It was never admitted lawfully into Serbia.Kosovo Albanians never had the choice to choose whether they wanted to be part of it.
When asked, thru their representatives they chose divorce from a failed state in 2008.You don't need consent of both parties in a divorce. It takes only one party.

No one in the west has spoken for a merger and I think Albanian would face the same sanctions that Russia faces now over Crimea. The EU and the US wouldn't recognize the merger for fear of being hypocritical given Russia's acquisition of Crimea and the response it received. Albania isn't even an EU candidate and I think Albanians in Kosovo are the only ones who hope for a merger while the real Albanians don't want to ruin their EU aspirations for the desires of their country folk brethren. I have read more about partition than I have of merger, and it seems more logical given the violent speech the Albanian commentators here make.

Furthermore, what happens if the investigation discovers Serbs living in Kosova had committed War crimes during the war. Are they simply released because they are not Albanian. Sort of like when one goes fishing and catches fish that are too small and are thrown back in the water.
