Total nonsense! Slobodan Milosevic vehemently opposed the adoption of UN Resolution 1244 considering it one of the darkest pages of UNSC's history and a de facto dismemberment of a sovereign European State!

To me, Milosevic, Karadjic, and Mladic are Serbian heroes who should be proclaimed as martyrs.

Ivan,
To you they may be heroes, however, to everyone else they are convicted war criminals and recognized as such by the United Nations.

@ Jugoslavja,

You are so right my friend. Milosevic attempted to put the Serbs on the map. Yes, there was corruption, but how different is that from any other government, and above all, it doesn't even come close to the carnage being perpetrated by those very countries who demonize him. To me, Milosevic, Karadjic, and Mladic are Serbian heroes who should be proclaimed as martyrs.

seems some serbs are idiots or dont know anything resolutioon 1244 was a capitulation from serbia and put Kosovo under UN control! read the resolution then you know what i mean.
(dan, 21 March 2018 11:20)

The Rambouillet Accord was a capitulation not UN1244. The Albanians and US never wanted the UN; it was the Serbs. Plus UN1244 respects the integrity of Serbia.

Perhaps a little history reading might improve your knowledge and stop you looking foolish.

As an outhouse legal “expert” I can only say what Free has said there is utter CRAP. The Rambouillet Accord was NEVER signed and has no meaning in this discussion especially when talking in terms of UN 1244. Using UN 1244 then adding section of the Rambouillet Accord to suit one’s agenda is fairy-tale stuff.

Perhaps a complete reading of UN1244 on its own would help clear things up for you Albos. Hey, I could take you guys to the cleaners and I am not even a lawyer.

"The very Resolution 1244 while it states several times “the territorial integrity of Yugoslavia” (not Serbia)"

Well,in 1999, Serbia was a part of Yougoslavia. Thus it seems to me that the résolution 1244 recognizes Serbia's territorial integrity too.

A Not So Free Serb

pre 6 godina

The very Resolution 1244 recognizes and denounces the state terrorist regime of Milosevic in Kosovo:
“3. Demands in particular that the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia put an immediate and verifiable end to violence and repression in Kosovo”.
The very Resolution 1244 is the same as Rambouillet Accords which Milosevic called “capitulation of Yugoslavia”.
The very Resolution 1244 while it states several times “the territorial integrity of Yugoslavia” (not Serbia) still states :
“(a) Promoting the establishment, pending a final settlement, of substantial autonomy and self-government in Kosovo, taking full account of annex 2 and of the Rambouillet accords (S/1999/648)”
Not only calls Kosovo status as pending but also says in FULL ACCORD of Rambouillet Accords.
In the Rambouillet Accords there is this meaningful article:
“3. Three years after the entry into force of this Agreement, an international meeting shall be convened to determine a mechanism for a final settlement for Kosovo, on the basis of THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE, opinions of relevant authorities, each Party's efforts regarding the implementation of this Agreement, and the Helsinki Final Act, and to undertake a comprehensive assessment of the implementation of this Agreement and to consider proposals by any Party for additional measures.”
And we all know the will of people of Kosovo.

It amazes me that some fools in Serbia do not realize that Milosevic saved many Serbian citizens being erased from the map which occurred in Krajina and Bosnia because of the lack of leadership of Serbs in those regions. The Vance-Owen plan was on the table and rejected by the Bosnian Serbian parliament. The Croatian government offered full autonomy for Krajina and rejected by the Kraijan Serbs led by Babich. Milosevic protected the rightfully elected leader of Kosovo, Rugova from the KLA terrorists contrary to the Albanian propaganda. He stood up alone in the Hague Tribunal and blew apart the prosecutors case piece by piece and his murder was the only option. If that is not a Serbian hero, not sure what is. Its time not to blame Croatians, Bosniaks or Albanians, but Serbs themselves. In 1389, Vuk Brankovic rode back to with his forces leaving Tsar Lazar to stand up against the Ottoman invaders, a stark reminder that Serbs and for that matter all the Balkans are not unified.

He was a traitor to Serbia - not a hero.

UNSCR1244 is significant. It is proof NATO did not defeat us militarily otherwise it would not exist. It is also the reason "Kosova"*** did not achieve independence. As we can see now, this can only be done with the agreement of the host nation, otherwise we wouldn't be asked for recognition.

Milosevics legacy only regarding serbia are 100.000s of orthodox Yugoslavs that had to leave their homes in Bosnia, Croatia and Kosovo. And several 1000s of dead orthodox Yugoslavs.
The only thing he deserves is that people start to forget him.

Milosevic had every chance to put things right, but persisted in corruption.

The inflation stole money from the Serbian people.

The mafias went wild.

He is associated with a number of murders.

He raided the banks.

Dayton and 1244 were impositions after the world at large stomped on his policies.

Call that a monument? Fine by me.

Shame he smoked so much - he could have lived to the end of his trial.

ivan

Milosevic had good intentions for the Serbs however his timing was inaccurate. If he would've embarked on the Kosovo journey now with Putin, things would've been different. They say he plundered from the Serbian people, then he should've been accountable to them and not to a biased kangaroo court. He was used as bait much like Saddham Hussein, the US gave him the green light and then stabbed him in the back. He should be honored and never forgotten.
