Thats totally incorrect. The people were asked and they have agreed to. You are wondering how? Its simple; when serbia used the nationalizm as an excuse to start wars in ex-yu the people in serbia VOTED yes to serbian nationalizm. therefore whoever is coming with this nonsense has lost his grasp on reality.

Great leaders have vision
Great leaders make things that last
Great leaders make things
Great leaders invent things
Great leaders grow economies
Great leaders leave strong legacies
Great leaders allow freedom of religion
Great leaders stand for democratic re-election
Great leaders do not use hidden force to stymie discontent
Great leaders do not employ 20% of the population to be informants

Tito did nothing but extract money from Washington & Moscow which he used to rebuild Yugoslavia and give it a standard of living it could otherwise have.... and which ultimately created a mentality in those people that they would always live that way

When the money dried up... so did the old man and the one leg he lad left.

He was a great Con Man.
He was the Candy Man.
He was Mr. Feel Good.

38 years later... everything he made or built has collapsed or ended in failure.

How exactly does that make him a great leader?

What still stands from his legacy?

Name one thing.

Tito was one of the last of the 'great leaders' history has known. I think this cannot be refuted, or at least not easily. He was an agency of change in Yugoslavia, the Balkans and the world, for good and bad. The question is whether the good outweighed the bad, and the answer depends on who you ask. Joska would say good won the day, whereas I would lean toward bad. Tito was responsible for many human atrocities, including the imprisonment and summary killing of many great patriots from the various republics that comprised Yugoslavia. Moreover, he actually laid the foundation of the breakup of Yugoslavia and gave momentum to the "Greater Albania" project.

I do think, however, that the concept of a "Yugoslavia" (and, beyond that, a larger Balkan federation of sorts) is generally a good one, and needs to be judged independently of Tito's legacy. Tito did not invent these ideas, and he certainly didn't perfect them. If people are nostalgic for the idea of "Yugoslavia", the defunct SFRJ and Tito are not the ideal reference points in my view. There are better examples of economic, social and political unions that have endured over time in this world, with far less repression and ideology and much more freedom.

Thankful for what?

He was a bloodsucker. He was a Communist. He was a Con Man. He was The Candyman.

His con caught up to him 35 years later.

He made no money. He used Geography to extract money from others.

Yugoslavs lived high on the backs of others.... and the Candyman fooled conned them into believing it was reality and would always be like this.

When Yugoslavia’s geography had no more value, the money dried up and The Con became apparent.

So he is to be thanked for being Mr. Right Now.... instead of building a true democracy that would be lasting? That’s funny.

One can even say that’s his Con created. A mindset of privilege. Of easy living. Of Summer Holidays and Winter Holidays. Of 1 month Sick leave. Of 1 year maternity leave. Those days are over forever and they will never come back. It was a fleeting moment in time, and those who lived it will all soon be deceased. Like the ancient Israelis their offspring will need to live in the wilderness for 40years until the Tito mentality of handout is finally extinguished. And then they will begin to prosper.

All of the Republics and territories of the former Yugoslavia were always poor and they will always be poor. Maybe Slovenia, Croatia, and Serbia will manage to pull themselves up a bit but they will never be wealthy and live like they did. They have no capital and their work ethic is not what it needs to be to succeed at the level required.

Yugoslavians do have to be thankful that Tito used extra monies for the betterment of the people, many leaders in similar situations use the money to build another palace or buy more weapons.

The USA subsidised Yugoslavia so much, especially the military, that Yugoslavia that it could afford to spend surplus on its people.

The EU subsidises Serbia so much, especially infrastrucure, that Serbia can afford to spend surplus on military and overpaying contracts for SNS supporters.

"Houston, We have a problem" is a black comedy, a fake story a bit like "Weight of Chains" . Why am I suprised that you would think this was real?

You are right in that the USA gave millions of dollars to support Tito. Yugoslavia was practically a NATO member and that is probably the only thing that prevented Stalin from invading.
Once Tito died and the USSR fell part, the money dried up and nobody knew how to run a country that wasn't being funded from abroad. USA offered to continue funding if Yugoslavia moved towards a free economy but Yugo leaders were not interested.
Guess what happened the unprofitable steel companies when there was no money for subsidies?
The reason that Yugoslavians had vacations, spas, security, free health care etc is because of foreign government support, mostly American.

Communists were thieves before, during and after their communist league of Yugoslavia. Even to this day they are thieves, such as referring to their establishment of a communist state as a slava today, which has nothing to do with Serbian Orthodox Christianity, yet they continue to steal from a culture that has existed for many centuries. The truth dries them out eventually.

There is no freedom living among communists. Christians always have to be alert for communist attempts to deny freedom. No person has the right to vote how another person shall live their life, nor vote to force people to pay for another person's wishes. Yugoslavia's economic downfall was predictable when they stole money from people's established wealth by printing endless amounts of money, which the communist members took advantage by paying off their mortgages within a few months, which saw the downfall of industry that manufactured items that took a lengthier time to manufacture. The thieves know exactly what I am referring to, because their members of the communist league took advantage of the planned printing of dinars.

Serbia's heritage laws should be revisited and eliminate funding of past regime families that denied freedom. Even the house of Karadjordjevic should be defunded for it was their family patriarch that stole Serb, Croat and Slovene identity by renaming the kingdom to Jugoslavia.

Agree with AriGold that the most devastating blunder, even though it was intentional, was to allow Albanians into Kosovo - these were private deals made by Tito and Albanian that the Yugoslavian people were not aware of until it was too late.

If you want more information on why the USA had it out for Yugoslavia, check out the documentary "Houston, We have a problem. It will show you how Tito screwed the US out of billions of dollars selling them a space program that was bogus - and of course, didn't want to return the money when the Americans found out it was a sham. This is on Netflix - sorry to my Albanian buddies, I'm pretty sure they done have Netflix in Southern Kosovo and Albania.

Yes. No one asked. Nor was anyone asked to lose their ancient identity. There was little choice. Communism/socialism, never lasts. One generation of the fake "brotherhood and unity" was not all lovely. Yugo-nostalgia is understandable. But Tito became a "god" figure and that never lasts.
The reason that Yugoslavians had vacations, spas, security, free health care etc is because of foreign government support, mostly American.

to continue my last comment.

Great leaders have vision
Great leaders make things that last
Great leaders make things
Great leaders invent things
Great leaders grow economies
Great leaders leave strong legacies
Great leaders allow freedom of religion
Great leaders stand for democratic re-election
Great leaders do not use hidden force to stymie discontent
Great leaders do not employ 20% of the population to be informants

Tito did nothing but extract money from Washington & Moscow which he used to rebuild Yugoslavia and give it a standard of living it could otherwise have.... and which ultimately created a mentality in those people that they would always live that way

When the money dried up... so did the old man and the one leg he lad left.

He was a great Con Man.
He was the Candy Man.
He was Mr. Feel Good.

38 years later... everything he made or built has collapsed or ended in failure.

How exactly does that make him a great leader?

What still stands from his legacy?

Name one thing.
