Actually they didnt even use them because they werent in service and the ones that were, were not at 100%. They were also gen 4 fighters, these will be gen4+. Serbia is not planning on taking on nato with 6 migs, only a genius like you would suggest that. However when these enter service they will be by far the most advanced aircraft in the sky in the region not owned by nato. Pilot skill is most important but a gen4+ mig29 is every bit as capable as a gen4+ f18 or f15. The us has upgraded some of their fleet to gen4++, but only approximately 10 to 20%. So keep telling yourself they are junk, but i can tell you for sure you have 0 clue what you are talking about. Croatia has a few 1950s mig 21s, great plane but vastly inferior to a gen4 mig29 let alone a gen4+ mig 29. Albania might have some battery operated drones amd some folded up paper airplanes. Romania, all gen4 planes, none gen4+. Keep hating on a subject you know nothing about, good to see your iq is well under 80.

These aircraft are plenty good enough to deal with Serbia's enemies - Croats, Albanians and Bosnian Jihadis.

And how did Serbia's scrap heaps work out for them last time against their 'enemies'? Not so good eh?

Mildred an azir, so jealous! I love it. How many gen4+ fighters do any countries in the balkans have? Can you two even name one feature of a gen 4+ fighter or even one feature of a mig 29? Btw the jet turkey shot down was a su25 which tend to do similar missions that a a10 would do although the a10 is better for ground troop support. Turkey got its agriculture and general export shot down after that incident which is why erdogan basically got on his knees behind the scenes for putin after that for forgiveness. Russia has the ability to make a lifeless hole out of turkey if they wish to.

Two of the Russian jets were donated by Turkey, from Erdogan as a gift to Serbia. They were the two that Turkey shot down over Syria awhile ago. One of them still had the remains of the Russian pilot.

As you must know Russian combat planes of all types are much better and much cheaper than the US made ones. Also you must have noticed that Turkey became a minor partner of Russia while Erdogan behaves like a lamb by Putin's side. In Syria we've lost only two 30 years old Su-24 bombers. One you know and the other fell after technical problem in Hmeimim base of our last week. After 20 months we've lost only one pilot from the first plane. Altogether our combat losses are either 40 or 42 officers in the air, on the land and the sea. Our 24 planes and 24 combat helicopters kill from 50 to 120 jihadis every day. No one can fight so good and it explains why the influence of Russia has ingreased so much.

I guess Canada is buying junk too with the possible purchase of FA-18 jets, the MIG-29 is far superior. The defense minister looks like he is from Albania, might explain it.

Who ever said you couldn't make money on junk?

Russia donated obsolete planes that will cost Serbia more in the long run through hard to find parts and technicians that know that type of aircraft....

Russia will gladly provide this service at a overpriced charge to compensate from that donation!

Russia is taking Ignorant Serbs for a ride once again ha ha ha....

It was cheaper for Russia to "donate" then to pay the junkyard fee....

Serbia gets "new" ✈ planes.

When they started falling apart during flight....
Is it money back guarantee?

No wait.....

They were donated to charity by Russia for the beggars in Serbia.

You get what you paid for!

They belong in a museum.

Nobody in the region even has a functioning air force, let alone mig 29s with gen4+ avionics. You people complaining should probably learn a little about military fighters first. How old do you think americas f16s are? I rest my case.

The body and engines are old but have been well maintained and will last for many more years. The electronics and weapons and weapons control systems are the latest designs. These aircraft are plenty good enough to deal with Serbia's enemies - Croats, Albanians and Bosnian Jihadis. They are also good enough to see off NATO, but for that battle Serbia would need to buy a few more.

28 years old.

So they were built in 1990 before many on this web site were born, as amatter of fact here are some other events from 1990.

West Germany won the world cup
The world wide web (www) was proposed as a method to combine text and hyper links
Home alone was a new movie we were all watching
Margaret Thatcher resigns
East and West Germany unite.
The iphone was still 18 years away, nobody knew what a Google was .

And Serbia's future "new" fighter jets are manufactured.

sj

Provided the frame, skin and avionics have been upgraded there is nothing wrong with these aircraft being 28 years old. They can last for another 15 years. As a matter of interest the Australian air force purchased the F111 in 1973 and flew them until 2010.

If you look at the F35, well they have trouble flying when it rains, cannot communicate with other fighters, systems do not work and so far it cost over 500 million.
