Vojvodina wants to be independent? The top four ethnic minorities in the region consist of servers, Hungarians, Slovaks, and Croats. They all have historical conflict with each other. And not all Serbs will agree about being independent. It’s like walking into a room filled with multiple combustible gases and turning on a light switch, with the nearby fire departments that don’t like each other. Maybe it will draw in outside regional powers. Catalonian Independence will most likely resonate will h the Bosnian Croats.

Those big bad Serbs just decided with no reason whatsoever to hurt those poor little darlings the kla.
(Helsingborg, 4 October 2017 17:55)

Serbia hurting KLA was never the problem, the problem was always that every Albanian man, woman and child in Kosovo was treated as a terrorist.
Serb police and army had the right to murder whoever they wanted without consequence.

you might want to revise the history of Catalunya and the history of Spain, both when it's separated and intertwined. you might rethink that idea Catalans never suffered oppression from Spain...

This argument sounds good however Kosovo did not claim independence until Years after the war not right after the war.

Second, article 1244 is dynamically opposite of what this academic is arguing.

So there is no broad concensous.

There is conflicting international thoughts relating to Kosovo.

Is funny how Serbs would like to compare Catalonia to Kosovo! They don't care about genocide they did against albanians. 11 thousands albanians dead. 200 thousands homes destroyet and looted. 1 million people compelled from their homes. I do not know how you can compare. Continue like this Serbia, and you going to get what you deserves. Oluja 2.

Questions for Bieber from my daughter: Where exactly in some international agreements or otherwise codified international law it is written that "violence" and a prior history of oppression constitute legal grounds for international recognition of referendums proclaiming unilateral declaration of independence of a given territory from a UN member state? WHERE EXACTLY BIEBER? And what about successive (as opposed to prior) history of repression say Katalunja goes ahead and proclaims independence and Spain's Guardia Civil goes on beating people and harassing peace-loving catalonian citizens without necessarily burning to the ground Barcelona and beautiful catalonian villages? Does a post-referendum history of repression justifies the international recognition of secesionist regions? My daughter is waiting for an answer Bieber biba!

The autonomy was not revoked on a whim or just for the hell of it.there was an active and violent rebellion occurring, with army and police being killed and Serbs being intimidated. In retrospect, maybe it may have been better to allow these terrorists to carry on and hooe they went away.
Kosovo being so important to Serbia, and knowing the type of people the kla were, this was impossible. In fact, a large amount of restraint was shown for a long time.
(Jeff, 4 October 2017 17:17)

Man what KLA and what violence are you talking in 1989 there was no KLA not violence against Serbs. Look in youtube a documentary of how Serbs planed the scene for Milosevic.

Kosovo was in total military control and there were cerfew, Albanian kids were not allowed to go to school or University, language was banned.

Vucic even closed main news paper Rilindja in Kosovo, every Director post in Kosovo was a Serb think about it: in 1991 cencus 1.6M Albanins (82% of population) Serbs 194K (9.9% of population and all posts [Police, post, electromotor, Trepca, sports ...... were Serbs how that makes sense].

Until 1997 Kosovo tried peacefully to ask for status with Rugova then when that went nowhere you had the reaction to the oppression.

I was not allowed to go to school in 5th-grade school closed, poisoned children look at the video.

Bieber willfully ignores the chronology of events, as is so often the case with those trying g to justify their illegal actions.

"Despite the fierce police response on Sunday, the Catalan independence movement cannot claim that there has been 'a history of repression, as Kosovo has been able to do,' Bieber said"

Bieber apparently begins his comparative history in 1989, which is convenient for his argument since it eliminates examining decades of repression, violence, murder, and authoritarianism that Catalonia experienced by Madrid from Francisco Franco. Upon the Generalissimo's death, widespread fear was felt that Catalans, Basques, among others, would seek to break away from a state that repressed their rights and liberties for so long.

"Bieber then said that 'several years prior to (independence) referendums in Slovenia and Croatia in 1990, only a minority was in favor of independence (from Yugoslavia)' - but it was 'the hard-line policy of then President (of Serbia) Slobodan Milosevic' that 'catapulted nationalists to power, and provided support for moving away from Belgrade.'"

Bieber also seems to be under the impression the entirety of Yugoslavia was living in blissfully happy bratsvo i jedinstvo until big bad Sloba came along and ruined it for everyone else. He completely leaves out the growing sentiment of secessionism in Slovenia, and the equally nationalistic rhetoric from Tudjman. Sloba alone would not have destroyed Yugoslavia since his own party would have sacked him. He needed Tudjman just as Tudjman needed him for exacerbating the security dilemma.

This guys lack of curiosity And understanding of why revocation occurred is scary when he actually thinks he has a case. They are terrorists by any legal argument, and crushing them was completely legal.
Catalonians have never behaved as the kla, therefore their claims to independence carry a lot more weight.
