Ask the citizens of any EU country if they favor Serbia to become an EU member, and at least 75%, probably even more, will tell you NO, or absolutely NO!!!

According to polls, Serbs are not interested and if it means giving up Kosovo then it's an overwhelming No! In the meantime, Serbia will keep drawing on accession funds while Albanians dream up new plans to escape into the EU.

Do keep careful watch on how the EU conducts these negotiations. It could be a strong illustration of the trap you are walking into.

You never know, but when it comes to Balkans 2025 might become 2030, and so on. Plus until then something bad might happen and joining EU might not be that important. Sometimes I think EU will allow Serbia to join its ranks like they did with Romania and Bulgaria, even though, they weren't prepared. The only reason for that was to not allow those two countries be influenced by Russia. When you join EU you must start singing a new song.

Bob: The EU are representing the interests of the remaining 27 not the UK. To expect equal weight to be given to both is fanciful. Many in the UK have said that they don't care what it costs, both literally and metaphorically, they just want out. The EU is aware of this and of the need to hold the union together so we, the British, can expect no favours.

Serbia has to decide very soon how serious it is about joining. If it doesn't wish to adjust its economy or judicial system or to make serious attempts to stamp out corruption and nepotism then it should say so now and save everyone a lot of bother. They should be encouraged by the fact that Romania and Bulgaria were allowed to join after only paying lip service to the required changes, although perhaps this has made the EU members more wary. There is also the concern that a neighbour may abuse the veto, as Slovenia did with Croatia, and demand more than a pound of flesh (or perhaps I should say 454 grams).
