This analyst here offers his humble analysis here: EU and USA both were confident that since they know everything about Thaci & Haradinaj etc. involvement in drug trafficking and other "businesses" both would have been keen to be blackmailed in a more or less easy way. Instead Thaci's words "I'm entertaining my d. with americans" need to be interpreted in a proper way. What Thaci meant is that there's nothing US or EU know that can make him come to terms with his past and lead a fair dialogue with Belgrade. Reason is that whatever they know about him, Thaci & Haradinaj know by far more about Nato's involvement in their "businesses" training of UCK solders, contacts with their armies, say Allbright's private phone number, etc etc. Thats why EU or US are both useless, none can boast to have some kind of leverage on Kosova's politicians, forget about any real pressure they can assert on them.

As I wrote below, it costs nothing to be feral during election season. In many cases it builds credibility among a segment of the voting base. It's rational to be obedient when in office. Just look at Thaci.

Because the "war coalition" is the devil you know, versus Vetevendosje which is the devil you don't. For all the bluster and bravado used during election season, Thaci, Haradinaj, Limaj and other "heroes" know they're on borrowed time and rely heavily on support they receive from the US and other international powers who "expect" them to live up to deals and agreements signed with Belgrade if they don't want to see their support abandoned and their careers ruined. Haradinaj can make whatever promises he wants when out of office, but if Thaci is any indication of what's to come, he owes his freedom and immunity to the West.
