You're right.The only way US governments have been able to finance their deficits in recent years is by monetizing their debts through fresh money(Q/Es) The new debt remains, the new money remains and the obligation for all of its citizens to service that debt remains. Printing money has never ended well ,not once .As soon as the FED stops printing (assuming it ever does) then interest rates shoot up and there is less money flowing into asset classes like stocks and housing Then mortgage rates start to reset higher, credit cards etc too and any spare cash households thought they had evaporates and they’re plunged right back into a steep recession.

Households have benefited from this but wages have not increased above inflation so although real hardship has been avoided it has only been put off.
