Loo you don't know what you are talking about so go and tend to your goats. Montenegrins were not asked about anything, including NATO. Why not hold a referendum to see whether they want NATO or Russia? Surely that's the democratic way? The US is a great bastion of democracy, due process and transparency, and would support holding a referendum to let the people decide LOL.
But would Russia ever help Serbia in case it is attacked?

Russia has a defence pact with Serbia and will protect it in case of attack. In fact, so does China and that is the reason why the US has not been more aggressive with China as it initially planned.
Washington had planned to even use quick military strikes on China to bring it under control because Beijing has surpassed it on the economic and finance fronts and is spreading its influence and money outwards aka the Road and Belt Project while the US is only spreading terror and destruction.
Its only due to Russians military that stopped the US from taking action.
