Forget about GDPs. Croatia receives money from the EU fund. It gets money from Brussels to maintain infrastructure. Croatia has not earned a Euro cent of this money, but its included in calculating the Croatia’s GDP.

In Kosovo, the west takes into account in growth projection calculations money sent to relatives living in Kosovo by family members who work in the EU - this year its 4%. It’s called statistical bullshit.

Croatia living off tourism is another BS story. Main tourist period is June to August. That’s 3 months. What do they eat for the other 9 months?

Croatia lost 200,000 people last year and this year they project between 35,000 and 40,000. Last year 40,000 Croats lost their jobs and this year its projected to be 65,000. Not one industry has relocated to Croatia since the 1990s; not one.

Walk down the main streets of Zagreb and try and find out who gets paid 700 or 800 Euros a month and see what how many you will find. I guarantee you they will laugh at the question.

Look at the US. Its official unemployment level is now 4.7%. Even Donald Trump laugh at that figure. GDPs are much like the US unemployment figures – made up.

Go to Montenegro and tell me how on God’s earth can it be richer than Bulgaria. Montenegro has no industries or no minerals. Its a major importer of food. So what does it have? Tourism. Richer than Bulgaria? another BS story.

SJ , I don`t think Croatia is more poor than Bulgaria without EU money because Croatia live from tourism , is 20% of gdp the tourism money , i don`t think Bulgaria is richer . Serbia have more big minimum salary and average pensions and average salary than Bulgaria . That Bulgaria doesn`t want to develop , the gdp might grow 2% 3% but the people never fell nothing . The mafia from Bulgaria is more big even than the one from Serbia !

I forgot to mention that Montengro is richer than Bulgaria .

Croatia have big average salary because of Zagreb and Split

The best move was the breakup of Yugoslavia and most important of all Serbia no longer carries anyone on its back.

Croats left Yugoslavia thinking that the west would shower them with gold and for a while it did look good until the GFC. It’s been downhill from then on.

Yes, it is human nature to look for something better, but after hearing ad nauseum about the wealth of Croatia and how it single handily propped up Yugoslavia you would think it can now offer its people jobs and a high standard of living.

The truth is Croatia is now even poorer than Bulgaria. If the EU did not support the Croatian currency and its bank loans, Croatia would be a failed state within 3 months.

There is a very fine line between promoting something, be it a product or country, and BS. Just enough sells the product, but if too much it stinks, and in case of Croatia it reeks.

Actually, there are many Serbs who work in Russia in the oil and gas industry. You also have Georgians, Ukrainians and Turks who work in Russia.

That is the conundrum. My experience has always shown that people don’t leave a country of its successful, but perhaps Croatia is special where people migrating means wealth.

~~~~~~~~~
That could be the reason why Croatia left Yugoslavia and went to join the EU.
Better to live in a small house in a nice neighbourhood rather then live in the biggest house in the ghetto. Which would you rather do?
It is human nature to look for something better just as many from the region left for the west over the last few hundred years. You surely don't see many going to "Mother Russia" except of course our friend Dragoljub Djurkovic. :)
I do not want to get into your discussion with others but, my comment was meant to bring attention to many of the crazy nationalists we have among our own people and what they are doing.
While wanting to believe that it is a form of satire you have to admit that almost everyone of them knew the words off by heart. That makes me believe that it was not the first time they heard the song or sang it. So you can try to justify it some how but the video speaks for itself.
What is really funny is that it was filled in 1993 in Glina and now you have to wonder where those guys are today and how they feel about being immortalized on the internet for their friends, families and children to see.
Speaking of "hillbillies" Lenny, Thompson makes a career off of hillbillies from Herzegovina and expats from Austrialia. Despite Romania being in the EU living standards are not very high and what happens if the young educated people can’t find work at home or the skills they have are poorly paid? They look outside. Serbia is the same.
The best example why people leave was on Croatian TV Dnevnik about 6 weeks ago. A young Croatian couple who were specialists in Information Technology were migrating to Canada (I think) were asked why? They could find jobs in Croatia easily. They said their children had no future in Croatia.
On Croatia’s average salary being 700 or 800 is pure BS. The real salary is about the same as in Serbia.
Its is pure fantasy to blame only the Minister for Agriculture. The decision on increasing tax was a try on to see if they could get away with it, and all members of Cabinet would have been aware and approved of that action, including Plenkovic.
You really should do a little research before you post.
As for unemployment
http://www.total-croatia-news.com/business/20768-foreign-workers-will-not-solve-croatian-labour-problems
As for the wages of workers
http://www.total-croatia-news.com/business/21028-croatian-average-salary-grows-fastest-in-region
As for the debt,
http://www.total-croatia-news.com/politics/21120-should-falling-deficits-lead-to-lower-taxes
While Croatia's economy is far from perfect, it seems to be growing. With the expected $ 10 billion Euros to be pumped into the economy from tourism alone this year and strict budget I am sure others in the former YU would be happy to trade places in economic terms.
Croatia lost 200,000 people last year and this year they project between 35,000 and 40,000. Last year 40,000 Croats lost their jobs and this year its projected to be 65,000. Not one industry has relocated to Croatia since the 1990s; not one.
Walk down the main streets of Zagreb and try and find out who gets paid 700 or 800 Euros a month and see what how many you will find. I guarantee you they will laugh at the question.
Look at the US. Its official unemployment level is now 4.7%. Even Donald Trump laugh at that figure. GDPs are much like the US unemployment figures – made up.
Go to Montenegro and tell me how on God’s earth can it be richer than Bulgaria. Montenegro has no industries or no minerals. Its a major importer of food. So what does it have? Tourism. Richer than Bulgaria? another BS story.
(get correct, 10 August 2017 17:43) The point is Serbia is so poor that its citizens cant afford their own goods. Serbia dumps them so cheap in to Croatia to get some mighty Kuna. In Serbia pensions were cut by 10% also workers salaries same but warmongering Serbia increased the Army personnel salaries by 10% go figure. Same with other southern Ex Yugo republics poor and do the same things dump. Croatia was the engine of Ex Yugo pulled and subsided the poor Republics. Serbia promised it will watch the dumping their products dirt cheap and other Republics. We all know how trusty Serbia is aka Mexicano Bandito's.
The point is that Croatia has chronic unemployment, the Kuna cannot buy a pretzel and its debt per capita continues to rise. It will soon face austerity measures and it may be run by Germany, Austria or Hungary. Reminds you of Zagoria under the Austro-Hungarians, this time Yugoslavia or Serbia will not bail out there fellow South Slavs.
Poor, cash strapped Croatia will just have to look for other ways of making money. Of course raising import taxes on non-Croat goods means there's a demand for them over Croatian products. Can't blame them.
Yes hill billy music even you croatians love. Remember when Ceca was in Slovenia droves of croats from Croatia went to see her perform. Bosnia and Serbia has the best performers in the balkans. You croats should do what you do best: dress like gay men and sing your nazi song.
Alex and Lenny,
I don't know any Serbs who would sing any of that Thompson shit outside of satirizing it, but I do know many a Croatian wedding will, at one point in the evening, play Serbian music. Even better, Krajina Serb music.
Speaking of "hillbillies" Lenny, Thompson makes a career off of hillbillies from Herzegovina and expats from Austrialia. He's got one year to make enough money playing a concert for neo-nazis to cover his expenses until next year. In between, he's constantly wondering why he's banned from "singing" in Slovenia, Austria, and Germany :)
Why are you so concerned about the economy in Serbia and neighbouring states? What's it to you? You should be happy my Serbia is buying all your cheap, low quality gods! @ Lenard - lol, sometimes I feel for you;)) Don't know where to go with all this and your default is "blame Srbija". I spent a lot of time this summer in Hrvatska, Baranja area, in a celo near Novi Bezdan.
Lenard - let me put it simply to you...Hrvatska was ordered by big brother (EU) to quit playing tough guy and stop pretending Hrvatska is a "somebody" in this club of a "few big boys". They got spanked for thinking they "belong" in this club...and your default is right away "bame Srbija"...LOL, funny!!
The sad part is Srbija wants to go to this same club where they'll compete with people like Croatians, Bulgarians, Romanians for toilet cleaning job...pathetic!
What I cant seem to reconcile is, based on your attachments, how well Croatia is going compared to all other ex Yug and the large numbers of young and qualified Croats leaving the country, which this year will be anywhere between 35,000 and 40,000. Last year, Croatia lost about 200,000 who went to look for work in the EU and elsewhere.
That is the conundrum. My experience has always shown that people don’t leave a country of its successful, but perhaps Croatia is special where people migrating means wealth.
Croatia only has tourism and no country on this planet lives off just tourism which lasts about 3 months of the year. Either Croatia lives off fresh air or its being subsidised by the EU. One example, Croatia puts into the EU Fund 3 billion and withdraws 6 billion over a 12 month period.
Despite Romania being in the EU living standards are not very high and what happens if the young educated people can’t find work at home or the skills they have are poorly paid? They look outside. Serbia is the same.
The best example why people leave was on Croatian TV Dnevnik about 6 weeks ago. A young Croatian couple who were specialists in Information Technology were migrating to Canada (I think) were asked why? They could find jobs in Croatia easily. They said their children had no future in Croatia.
On Croatia’s average salary being 700 or 800 is pure BS. The real salary is about the same as in Serbia.
Its is pure fantasy to blame only the Minister for Agriculture. The decision on increasing tax was a try on to see if they could get away with it, and all members of Cabinet would have been aware and approved of that action, including Plenkovic.
This is not a minor agreement between 2 towns; it’s a trade agreement with Serbia and Bosnia and it would stipulate in that document the level of tax and any future increases.
The point is that the Agriculture minister took it upon himself to make a decision that affected other ministries without consulting them or the Prime Minister, his move was not supported by Plenkovic or others in the government. In the end he had to back down since it was not an agreed policy.
The best move was the breakup of Yugoslavia and most important of all Serbia no longer carries anyone on its back.
Croats left Yugoslavia thinking that the west would shower them with gold and for a while it did look good until the GFC. It’s been downhill from then on.
Yes, it is human nature to look for something better, but after hearing ad nauseum about the wealth of Croatia and how it single handily propped up Yugoslavia you would think it can now offer its people jobs and a high standard of living.
The truth is Croatia is now even poorer than Bulgaria. If the EU did not support the Croatian currency and its bank loans, Croatia would be a failed state within 3 months.
There is a very fine line between promoting something, be it a product or country, and BS. Just enough sells the product, but if too much it stinks, and in case of Croatia it reeks.
Actually, there are many Serbs who work in Russia in the oil and gas industry. You also have Georgians, Ukrainians and Turks who work in Russia.
That could be the reason why Croatia left Yugoslavia and went to join the EU.
Better to live in a small house in a nice neighbourhood rather then live in the biggest house in the ghetto. Which would you rather do?
It is human nature to look for something better just as many from the region left for the west over the last few hundred years. You surely don't see many going to "Mother Russia" except of course our friend Dragoljub Djurkovic. :)
Forget about GDPs. Croatia receives money from the EU fund. It gets money from Brussels to maintain infrastructure. Croatia has not earned a Euro cent of this money, but its included in calculating the Croatia’s GDP.
You really should do a little research before you post.
As for unemployment
http://www.total-croatia-news.com/business/20768-foreign-workers-will-not-solve-croatian-labour-problems
As for the wages of workers
http://www.total-croatia-news.com/business/21028-croatian-average-salary-grows-fastest-in-region
As for the debt,
http://www.total-croatia-news.com/politics/21120-should-falling-deficits-lead-to-lower-taxes
While Croatia's economy is far from perfect, it seems to be growing. With the expected $ 10 billion Euros to be pumped into the economy from tourism alone this year and strict budget I am sure others in the former YU would be happy to trade places in economic terms.
Vucic has to send a "Thank you" card to his Croatian counterparts and partners. I mean....more and more people in Serbia are waking up, and starting to wonder about Vucic's slogan "Serbia is winning!" They start to ask what did we win, actually, amidst sea of calamitous moves of our government. It wasn't hard to arrange some kind of display such as this with his European partners. Let's have someone slap something on us, and then have it removed. That way we can have people in Serbia think that we are winning....
I do not want to get into your discussion with others but, my comment was meant to bring attention to many of the crazy nationalists we have among our own people and what they are doing.
While wanting to believe that it is a form of satire you have to admit that almost everyone of them knew the words off by heart. That makes me believe that it was not the first time they heard the song or sang it. So you can try to justify it some how but the video speaks for itself.
What is really funny is that it was filled in 1993 in Glina and now you have to wonder where those guys are today and how they feel about being immortalized on the internet for their friends, families and children to see.
SJ , I don`t think Croatia is more poor than Bulgaria without EU money because Croatia live from tourism , is 20% of gdp the tourism money , i don`t think Bulgaria is richer . Serbia have more big minimum salary and average pensions and average salary than Bulgaria . That Bulgaria doesn`t want to develop , the gdp might grow 2% 3% but the people never fell nothing . The mafia from Bulgaria is more big even than the one from Serbia !
I forgot to mention that Montengro is richer than Bulgaria .
Croatia have big average salary because of Zagreb and Split
