At the moment besides Novak Djokovic she is certainly the most fruitful ambassador of Serbia while in her own country there is no acknowledgment of her work.

I don't think I would be hitching my wagon to her anytime soon.
She is into some crazy stuff and a government cannot afford to be associated with that.

This woman is an artist and should have all the freedom in the world to express herself however she wants.

But I too have the right to say that she is batshit crazy and that the people of Serbia were smart in shunning her work. No one is obligated to like your work if its garbage!

Marina Abramovic is a true ambassador of culture, primarily, ambassador of culture of US and Serbia, as well as Netherlands.
It is interesting how we missed the chance to build cultural relations between Serbia and USA, through the work and life of this internationally recognized artist. Moreover, there is no plans for making good use of this "common good, common value".
Are we witnessing both countries giving up on this potential, or there is simply no interest for cultural diplomacy to assist in overcoming the legacy of military intervention.
We used to be proud of the Cultural Center of Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia in New York, while we used to educate and inform ourselves in the US Cultural Center, in Belgrade downtown. A small group of volunteers in Washington had done more than our Embassy, UN Missions in NY, etc., for the sake of our culture. This is nice of them to do so, but it is totally senseless. We have to present our values compatible to the world in a systematic way.
It would be excellent if our state supported MAI (Marina Abramovic Institute), and that this institute starts its life here, and that Marina becomes one of our ambassadors in US, for the entire world, in the field of art performance.
Serbia should grant her diplomatic passport, asking her to represent Serbia worldwide, while USA should make possible for her to transmit and distribute the values of free artistic expression, freedom of speech, etc.

Welcome Marina Abramovic to your country and your city

Marina certainly deserves to receive all honors from acedemic to national. Serbia would benefit more from Marina Abramovic as a honorary University professor once a year holding lectures and workshops for young artists, to finally get a quality retrospective of her works like what the citizens of Denmark and visiors of Copenhagen can see (and after and Oslo, Poland, etc.), that wer works become parts of our national collections too.

It's certainly important that Prime Minister Ana Brnabic showed interest in bringing Marina back to Serbia, but there were several similar announcements and in all of them Marina was let down by every Serbian official. It's important that something specific happens this time that could lead to a gradual return of Marine and her work to Serbia.
